| Help! Poppy peed in her sleep twice today, why?!!!! So Poppy's been napping on the sofa the past few hours, not unusual, she usually naps frequently through the day until my husband gets home. Well I noticed a wet spot next to where she was sleeping so started investigating it and when she saw me investigating it, she awoke, walked over to me and the spot she was sleeping in had a huge wet spot as well. What the heck is this?!!!! This has NEVER happened before. She sleeps with me every single night. She naps on me or next to me every single day. Does anyone have any experience with this? The web is just saying perhaps it's a muscle issue???

| Hi There. My Chloe has this problem. There are many issues that could cause this problem, I had my Chloe examined by two vets and a specialist to rule out some of these issues. On a very simple level she could have a UTI or a bladder infection. There are issues however that cause this to be an ongoing problem: One is an ectopic ureter... this is where the ureter does not enter the bladder in the correct place... however with this condition it usually happens almost every time they are laying down. They usually do an ultrasound with dye in order to rule this condition out. There is also a problem where the muscle is not strong enough and it will relax on its own allowing urine to pour out... this can usually be managed with certain medications. The specialist Chloe saw was pretty certain that she has an issue called "overflow incontinence" which means that when her bladder is very full, which happens certain times when she is not concentrating her urine enough, she cannot control her bladder muscles and the urine leaks out. We could have tried the medications, however, with her underlying liver problems we chose not to. Chloe will usually have an issue for a few days and then not again for a few months. When she is having the problem I will usually have her wear a diaper when she sleeps. Some of this is probably getting way ahead of the game... If I were you, I would take her to a vet and have a urinalysis done to see if she has an infection of any kind first... this is probably the most likely cause and the easiest to diagnose and fix. Good Luck

| Are you sure it is pee? Does she lick her feet? My Tiki leaves a wet spot on my bed sometimes from licking her feet (she gets obsessed sometimes cause of fleas). If it is in fact pee, you might want to consult a vet in case she has a urinary tract infection. Last thought, not knowing her age, some dogs do develop urinary incontinence but usually not until advanced age, from what I've heard. Probably not the case with her.

It's definitely pee. She didn't even know she peed herself, I watched her get up from her nap and walk away from a wet spot directly under her bum area. Then I cleaned it up with Simple Solution and it was yellow. Her regular vet will not be in the office until the morning.

If nothing else is wrong with her, this is something that can wait until the vet opens tomorrow, nothing to rush into the ER vet with.

| Try to get a sample and take her into the vet...she very easily could have UTI (urinary track infection). Try to put a cup at the end of a long stick (tongs from kitchen work) so when you take her out to pee you can put it out under her...do it the morning you are going to the vets or right before going to vets depending on time of day..the fresher the catch the better.

| First thing to do is take her to the vet in the morning. I am sure they will want to do a urinalysis on her. This is probably something simple...perhaps a urinary tract infection.

| I was going to say the same thing. It could be a urinarty tract infection. I would take her to the vet to be sure.

| Ok, she's definitely going to the vet in the morning. I'm glad it's not an emergency, she's running around like normal and doesn't appear to be in any pain, I was just SHOCKED. Hope she doesn't pee on me tonight....but I'll forgive her if she does. Poor thing doesn't even know she did it! Getting a sample might be very very tricky, so I hope they have their methods if I can't get one. You know how when humans have UTIs, we drink cranberry juice as a natural remedy to feel better? Are there any natural remedies for dogs kinda along those lines?

| they will sometimes try and take your pup for a walk and get it that way and if your pup refuses they will use a needle and get it that way... so if you cant get it on your own... dont take her pee right before you go into the vets office.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Like the others mentioned UTI comes to mind. Was she recently spayed or going into a heat cycle? If she is pas trained you can flip the pad over and when she pees it will stay on top of the plastic so you can collect it. The one and only time Cali had an UTI she peed on my bed and that's how I knew. Keep us posted.
