| Older Yorkie can't keep food down My Yorkie was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure over a year ago and only given 6months to a year to live so he has already lived longer than they expected. He threw up three times last night, the yellowish bile stuff. I gave him some bland cut up chicken this morning and he couldn't keep it down. Same thing this afternoon and he has very runny bm. I did see him drink a little water. Do you think he just has upset stomach? Has anyone got an older yorkie that has had thees problems? He always has dry food available but he hasn't eaten any. |

| Has he had blood work done lately ? if not that's the first thing you need to do. He could be having kidney or liver problems, this is common in older dogs. |

| Yorkie - can't keep food down Thank you for your reply, we will have to have him go to the vet because he is still having problems. He is throwing up the yellow bile but since his stomach is empty nothing is coming out most of the time. I don't know if I should try to feed him or not. I doubt he will keep it down. The internet mostly says to not feed him and let his stomach calm down. He has dry food out all the time and water but is not interested. |

| Congestive heart failure is a very broad term for the heart not working properly. It is so hard to see our little guys not feeling well. If he is throwing up yellow (bile) that is from lack of food in his stomach. I still think you need to take him in to see the vet but you can try feeding him little canned pumpkin with canned food or boiled chicken which help settle upset stomach. Keep us posted on how he is doing.

| You might also try plain rice, see how that goes. Poor baby, I'm so sorry he's ill.

| Let me first say how sorry I am that your pup and you are going through this. I know how hard this is, my first baby, Milkyway passed due to CHF and severe genetic anomalies. Near the end Milkyway threw up all the time, it was extremely heartbreaking. CHF effects their circulatory system such that the gastrointestinal track does not receive enough blood, which makes them feel full and nauseous; hence the vomiting. Try feeding him very small potions of food, just little bites at a time. Something very bland like chicken, but very small pieces, and only a very small portion. This may or may not help, depending on what stage of CHF he is in. How is his breathing? Is he panting alot? Has he developed severe edema? Milkyway ended up having a pot-belly due to the edema . I would definitely get him to the vet asap this week, as you know how they can change drastically with this disease. My heartfelt thoughts are with you, if you need to talk please feel free to pm me. Keeping you and your little man in my prayers. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry to hear about your baby. I lost my pom in February to congestive heart failure. She also had cushing's disease. She was doing fine until the day she passed. That night she seemed restless and didn't want to eat in the morning. She started breathing really shallow so I took her in and she was too far into CHF to help her. She did not vomit so maybe your baby has a tummy upset. Hopefully the vet can get him feeling better soon.

| If he's still throwing up fast him for 24 hrs. Give nutri cal to keep him from hypoglycemia till you get him to the vet. And you should get him to the vet asap. How old is he? |

| I would get to vet if throwing up bile and not food then stomach is empty. Have you tried soaking food he normally eats as chicken may be a problem for dogs that have ibd (food intolerance) another thing you could try is food processing the chicken with rice so easier to digest. So sorry you are going through this There is a good article in the whole dog journal you can purchase individual articles and it talks about getting seniors to eat and how they recommend. Some times they have to do steroids to increase appetite as well but not sure how steroids and heart disease will work. I would go to vet and get a senior panel done asap |

Also the medication could be making him not hungry as my friends yorkie had this happen- did they change the meds recently? |
