Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Macy Coughing! =( Macy does this too, only sometimes at night. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...need-help.html I end up laying on the couch with her all night when she has these fits though. It scares me to death! Could her kibbles be choking her!? Ive only noticed this since we changed from RC to Wellness puppy

| I posted this on the other thread but i'll post it here since you started your own thread. Is this something that happens most nights and is the coughing usually only at night or when she is resting? Or do you notice her coughing when she gets excited or is playing? Is she on heartworm preventative and have you had a heartworm test within the past year?

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | She is on heartworm medication, sentinel. And she had a test and shots on the 2nd. Everything came out fine I changed her food after her being here a week, from royal canin to wellness puppy. The kibbles are quite a bit bigger, but seems to eat it without a problem. She has fully switched now. She usually gobbles down quite a bit at night, then coughs her poor head off all night long. This is the only time i notice the cough. I feed her wet wellness puppy in the morning.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Now shes sneezing pretty badly on top of it all... She just started this about 15 minutes ago, and will not lay on my lap, just my feet. She always gets up and moves away to sneeze or cough, id rather comfort her, but shed rather be alone Im thinking its the food, and need to switch her back

| it could here is alink : Kennel Cough in Dogs: The Cause and Treatment of Bordetella in Pets and then; Amy posted a comment on February 18th, 2009 at 9:45 pm My Dachsund received the Bordetella vaccine on Tuesday 2-17-09 at about 9:30 that morning by that evening he was sneezing and today has a cough. This convinces me that the vaccine definately causes a reaction. In very rare instances, I have seen dogs develop mild coughing and sneezing as a result of vaccination against Bordetella. This syndrome, called reversion to virulence, occurs only with certain types of vaccines. It is extremely rare, and symptoms usually develop within a week of vaccination. Based on your description, it is unlikely (but not impossible) that reversion to virulence has occurred in your dogsthere were these other articles i found ... but i would stop the kibble to see if that is the problem ..just give a little moist food now a couple of scoops what does it matter if it helps stop the cough for tonight |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | the cough started on approx the 5th or so, but wasnt very often at all. (shots on the 2nd). Then i was working on changing her food, and it got worse! It has really gotten bad the last few days, sounds as if she is choking. i already switched her kibble back tonight to RC, which is what she was eating before, before i had the chance for wet tonight. she gobbled that up FAST, then fell asleep on the couch. We were having a hard time getting her to eat the wellness., other than the wet. She is still coughing, but not as bad as last night!

| That is exactly the same thing that happened that happened to my baby after receiving the Bordetella vaccine. Bella started sneezing about 24 hrs later and then a little hacking cough. She had the sneezing couple of day's and we finally decided to call the Vet, he put her on an antibiotic. The sneezing and cough are gone now, after being on the meds a few day's, but it does make me wonder if your baby could be having a reaction like mine did. Hope your baby is feeling better soon! |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | She is still coughing and hacking, the food didnt seem to change anything She was on meds for giardia, one being an antibiotic, so i dont understand why that wouldnt have helped. =(
