| worried about isabella This is my first thread on here. I recently got a 2 year old, 2.9lb. yorkie, Isabella and i am little worried about her. We flew from Indiana to Colorado yesterday and i gave her a mild sedative (prescribed by the vet, only a 1/4 of the pill) at 1:30. She has been groggy all day and doesn't seem to want to eat or drink. she ate little chicken i held up to her mouth and drank very little water. she has peed. i called the vet and they said that it can take up to 24 hours for thesedative to wear off. i just wondered if anyone had advice. thanks so much! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear she is not feeling well. Years ago when I was going to have to fly to florida with my yorkie the vet gave me a sedative. I tried giving her 1/2 the dosage and she was out for the day. I never did give it to her on the trip. So hopefully the effects from the sedative will be gone by tomorrow. I would try and give her some water to help flush her system.

| I would definitely try to give her water or Nutrical. Even if you have to use a syringe. Maybe try a little shredded boiled chicken? I hope she feels better tomorrow. |

| I don't have a clue why any Vet. would perscribe ANY sedative for a tiny dog. Their tiny body's don't do well with meds at all and can cause some serious complications. Please, take Lolapup's advice and get some Nutri-Cal into that baby, and you can also try her on some boiled chicken or even baby food meat if she will eat it. No dog food for your baby. Too many chemical's in that stuff.

| Good reading.... As i plan my trip to CO in a few weeks. I don't plan on using anything. The way i see it....if we are subjective to listening to a crying baby, they can listen to a wimpering Yorkie. I've never meet anyone who had anything good to say about sedating a pup, has anyone ever experienced a reason to have to do this? Are dogs nervous b/c of the plane and do their pop or something? I would think as long as you were there w/ your pup, they should be okay....Am I missing something?

| we used to fly to europe over 8 hours and never give sedatives to the yorkie..he did great and we even took him out of the carrier on our laps and he got so much attention he loved it... they even offered food for him when we got served and instead of water he got to lick an ice cube..but once we landed he sure did have to do his business... i would not give sedatives to a dog on the plane most are better than the kids crying ... I Hope ur Little One will be okay |
