| PLEASE HELP Im worried sick Hello Everyone Im new here. My female yorkie just turned 1 yr old.A few nights ago she got sick and threw up. The next day she acted really weak and looked like she had no life to her.She just satres off in space. She didnt want to eat or drink her water. She had a loose stool but no blood. Since she is me and my girlfriends pride of joy we imediatly took her to the vet. They did some test and blood work on her and the vet told us that she had a gastrill intestinal infection and she kept her on fluids all night the next morning we went in and got her and she acted like she felt a little bit better but when she got home she threw up again and didnt want any part of food. The vet told us to bring her back in for a few hours to recieve more fluids. We came back at five yesterday and got her and she slept all night really well but today she got sick and threw up again. When she goes outside she acts like she feels alot better. Im no vet but it doesnt seem like she is getting any better and she looks miserable all the time. Has anyone ever had this problem I didnt know if it took a little while for them to get over a gastrill infection or do you think I need to take her somewhere else. Does it sound like the vet knows what she is talking about? If not I will pay whatever to get my baby feeling better! I would appreciate your input SOOO Much becuase I am so worried something is majorly wrong that the vet is missing. Thanks |

| When you say she just stares into space it sounds like a hypogycemic attack also. I would give her nutrical duing this time also.

| Im so sorry that your female yorkie is so sick. If she doen't seem to be improving I think is best to take her back to the vet. If your not happy with the vet you have , get a second opinion. If she is not eating it might be a good idea to give her some nutrical. Ask your doc to check her for pancreatitis, there have being some cases of that and some fatal. I will have you and your pup in my prayers. I hope she gets better soon. Please keep us posted. Canine pancreatitis Last edited by Marie; 08-16-2005 at 10:38 AM. |

| Thank you Thank you so much for your advice you all are so caring I can tell.My girlfriends just left to get some nutricil. I thought one of the symptoms of the pancrease was excessive drinking of water and she acts like she doesnt want to drink often. I didn't know if this sounded like parvo or not. Thank you so much for your input |

| I'm not a vet... but this happened to my little maltese. The vet kept my baby on a IV over night and later the next day he was good as new. |

| You can sometimes find it at places like petco and petsmart. I got mine from my vet.

| My little Bailey is only 5months...but when we got him at 7 weeks he did the same thing.....throw up, not want to eat or drink,he was very slow and didnt want to even lift his head up.When my husband and i took him to the vet we found out he was hypoglycemic. So our vet gave him some nutrical...which helped ALOT!!! Now whenever we think he's having an "episode"....we just give him 1cc of Kero syrup through a syringe. Now he's ALOT better and eating more and more.I'm not a vet by all means but i hope my personal experience helps!!! |

| Nutrical and Gerbers baby food - turkey and rice. I hope he gave you some meds for her too. Sabrina gets something like this like every other year and I give her some sugar water by dropper and plain water by dropper too to keep her hydrated. Pedyilyte for babies is really good too. Just keep working with her. If she'd on her meds, they should suddenly take hold and work. But don't hesitate to go back to the vets..! |

| Just a pea size amount of the Nutrical will do 3-4 times per day. It is full of nutritional calories and so "Nutrical" is the beginning of both words. I'm not so sure the vet has paid enough attention. Did he do blood work to determine what her problem was? You are going to have to give her water from a dropper if she won't drink on her own. Stick it in the back corner of her mouth. This can be done with her mouth shut and you won't be stressing her out. She will drink as you slowly dispurse it. Start out with as many droppers as you can get her to drink (probably around 5-6). Then do this again a couple of hours later. She has to have the Nutrical and the fluids. Still make food available to her. Don't try giving her a bunch of stuff she has never had just to get her to eat, you will upset her stomach. If she doesn't seem better by tomorrow, I'd try another vet. Puppies do get sick for no reason, but you don't want to take any chances that this might be something serious. Please let us know how she is doing. Last edited by Julz; 08-16-2005 at 12:28 PM. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I agree...WATER in a syringe and Nutrical - plus try another vet if she's not better....they can go downhill fast and you don't want to take any chances - better safe than sorry and I hope your baby is feeling better today, |
