Something's wrong with Lucy I'm on my way to the vet with Lucy. I'm afraid her pins have moved. She appears to be in quite a bit of pain. She's breathing hard. Her neck keeps twitching. I thought she had the hiccups at first, she whimpers when I pick her up and she doesn't try to run after the other dogs like she usually does. I don't know what I'll do if her pins have moved. Her last surgery was VERY expensive and I don't think I can afford it again. She's so sweet. They love her at the nursing home. I'm really worried I'm going to lose her.

I just got back from my family vet. Her temp is 95.4, her blood pressure is very low, she's dehydrated. The blood panel showed everything normal, but her lungs are congested. He's more concerned about her neurological problems; her twitching and her problem walking. So, we're on our way to Michigan Veterinary Hospital. They're open 24 hours a day and have specialist for everything. That's where her patella surgery was done and that's where her AAI/AAS surgery was done. My vet seems to think that one of the pins may be impinging on her spinal cord causing the neurological symptoms. If they have to do surgery again, I don't know what I can do. The last one was over $6000 and don't even have it paid off.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Awww Lucy.... I understand the assumed association of the pins and neurological issues...but not that low a temperature along with her other symptoms. I'm glad you have access to a specialist. Sending positive thoughts from Va.

I guess I'm driving it alone. My "friend" who, 15 minutes ago, told me she'd go with me, suddenly remembered that she has something else going on. And they wonder why I like my dogs.

We just got home. Her temp is up. Her blood pressure is up. She doesn't seem to be twitching. They gave her oxygen and her breathing isn't to as bad.. I still don't know what's wrong with her. These are the possibilities: Pneumonia (but her white blood count isn't elevated) Heart failure (but she's less than 2 years old, no damage shows on xray, pulse is good, blood pressure is good, no abnormal heart sounds) ruptured disk migrated pin The pins have migrated. One broke and traveled to the skull. Doc's not sure if it's inside or outside the skull. Can't tell without ct scan. Same thing with possiblility of ruptured disk. Symptoms could fit with a pin that traveled into the brain, but the doctor feels that the symptoms would be more severe in that case. They gave her an injection of Lasix and sent her home with Lasix tablets and an antibiotic in case it's pneumonia. I was told to treat her with extreme care in case it's the ruptured disk. I have to take her in to my vet tomorrow to have another chest xray to see if the fluid (or whatever) is gone from her lungs. Last edited by majic50; 09-18-2008 at 07:54 PM.

Well, she has congestive heart failure. They don't know why she has it. The fluid in her lungs is starting to clear up. The fluid in her lungs is the only symptom. She will be on lasix until that doesn't work anymore and then we'll figure it out from there. She has had such a hard life. She's not even two years old and she's had her knees fixed and her neck wired and cemented and been spayed. Now this.
