| Something's wrong with Bella's eye..[Kinda graphic pics] This morning when I woke up I noticed Bella wasn't really opening her left eye that much, she was squinting a lot with it. I just got home from work and now it's swollen and has icky stuff coming out of it. She's acting normal, but I don't know if she has an infection or not, or if something could've gotten into it. If it doesn't improve by Monday I'm going to take her to the vet, but do you guys think that'll be too long to wait? I don't want to take her to the emergency vet if it's not severe. I posted some pics so you guys see what I'm talking about. Here's a good comparison of her eyes DSCF0392.jpg DSCF0390.jpg DSCF0389.jpg It's kinda blurry but you can see how it's swelling, I really didn't know it was swollen until I took a better look at it. | I could call the emergency vet, but last time I called them they said they won't give any advice over the phone, you HAVE to bring them in for an appointment. They won't even give me suggestions as to what could be wrong.

| That looks EXACTLY like what Sugar just had except his eyelid was a little red too. The vet said it was conjunctivitis and gave me antibiotic salve to use twice a day. It cleared it right up.

| Thank you! Do you know if this can get really bad? I pray that she just has something minor, and medicine will do the trick. Do you think I'd be able to wait until monday? I mean of course if it gets really bad I will take her to the ER vet, but ugh it just sucks not knowing with them what's going to happen. If it was me I know I'd just wait.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would probably take her in it looks sore, hopefully it will only be an er visit and some meds. Maybe there is something in it or she scratched her cornea. Hope it clears up soon.

| Thanks for the input guys! Just an update, it has cleared up A LOT!!! I'm still going to watch it and do plan on taking her to the vet monday cuz sometimes infections might look like they are cleared up, but w/o antibiotics you never know, and I don't want it to come back, especially if it's on a weekend when I can't get her in, or if it's during a time when I have school/work and might have trouble getting out of it. My mom advised me to put a warm washcloth on it, so I tried doing that a couple times, Bella would only sit still with it for a few minutes though. It has stopped oozing though, now it's just swollen still. She's not holding it closed like she was earlier though.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is your vet open today? I'd get her in ASAP. This could be debris implanted in the eye or a corneal scratch - which is extremely painful. Normal eye infections involve some redness, goopiness, discharge, even some smelliness. BUT, when a dog is trying to keep it's eye closed due to discomfort - I'd err on the side of getting her in ASAP - bc not only could you be risking terrible damage - but eye pain can be excruciating. Hopefully, it's nothing - but normally (normally), dogs don't squint or try to keep their eyes closed with just a bacterial infection. I've personally had a corneal scratch and it is nearly unbearable, without medication.

| This is the weirdest thing ever. This morning Sugar woke up and wouldn't open his left eye all of the way. Last time it was the right although I treated both. He's been fine since shortly after Easter and this thread is posted last night and I wake up to eye problems. I still have some antibiotic salve so I started that and he's already looking better. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow. Isn't that crazy? To top it off Spike has a dental appointment in the morning and started having loose stools yesterday. I have no idea why but I'm doubting he'll be able to make his dental. He acts fine energy and appetite wise and nothing in his diet has changed so I'm clueless. I'll have a lot to talk about with the vet I guess.
