Default Ripping out stitches

So Franklin got neutered yesterday and he's driving me NUTS! We put a onesie on him so he wouldn't bother his stitches but the problem is... he can't pee with the onesie on! He's paper trained so he has always gone whenever he wants. I feel bad because now I don't know when he has to go.. he hasn't gone all day so I've been leaving the onesie open. Well this of course leads to him obsessively licking and pulling at his stitches. They are starting to get red.

Do you guys think an e-collar would be better? I'd feel bad putting one on him and he is so cute with his onesie... Where you even buy an e-collar?

I had another idea... the Bitter Apple spray bottle says it "discourages fur biting, hair chewing, and hot spots" Do you think it'd be safe to spray some on a paper towel and wipe it around the incision area?

I got an ecollar from My vet. I dont know about spraying bitter apple on it but My vet did give me a spray to keep Chachi from licking there so it might work

i think the bitter apple is okay.. just wipe it around the area instead of spraying it directly on.

e-collars you can get at your vet or most places like petsmart or petco sell them too

If you have a strip of soft material about 4 1/2 inches wide and long enough to fit around the neck, sew either two 8" long strip of matierial or cut a shoe lace in half and sew one on each side to tie. Sew the end and down the length keeping open one end. Stuff with either stuffing or cotton and then sew closed the end. The shoe lace or strip of material should be at each of the ends to tie. This makes a better safety collar than the cone (not bumping into things) and they can't bend the head over to chew on a stitch or sore.

That is a GREAT idea!!! Thank you for suggesting this to OP. I was wondering what I could do to keep my Scooter from wanting to bite at his incision when the bandages come off tomorrow. He hates the collar and I was wondering how I could adapt it to be more functional. Your suggestion was exactly what I was looking for. I'm sure that it will also help others who are in the same situation. If there isn't one already, there should be a stickyon tips/ideas/suggestions for the sick/injured for just this kind of info.

The onesie worked for us because Ellie is outside trained.
If you can't stop him from chewing, he needs to wear a collar.
Please don't wait. If infection sets in he will have a big problem.
Also, I would not put anything on her near the incision that the vet hasn't approved...

probably a dumb idea but can you cut a small hole in the onesie in a 'choice' location?

My Ozzy got neutered tuesday too. I have been with him ever since he got home. At night he wears his onsie and if he has to potty we unsnap it when we put him on the pad. During the day I have him either naked or with the onsie and I watch him constantly. If he heads onto the pad I rush over and unsnap him. I've been late getting to him and we had to clean up but it seems to work for us.

I also have a soft e-collar that I got online for about $10. Google soft e-collar and I think you should find it but it will take a day or 2 to get to you so your better off making it or getting one from your vet. Good luck. I hope Franklin feels better.

Cutting a hole in the oneside wouldn't work because for the hole to big enough for him to not get the onesie wet, the incision area would be exposed also.

We got a soft e-collar today from the vet. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

this may sound special but i put a panty-liner on the inside of the onesie. Moses would go to his pee pad and think he was going-potty on it but it was being absorbed by the liner. then i would just replace the liner with a new one. the only time i would take the onesie off was when he had to go poo.
