| !!! help, how to find out that the dog really be PSS !!! my Porsche is suspected to be portosystemic shunt becuase he gets bladder stone (now he can pee normally, yet he still has to eat u/d) and after doing blood test (he wasn't eat + drink about 8 hrs. before this) his ammonia level is high (i think it's called BUN, but not sure). if he really is,what should I do. I don't want to do a surgery 'cz he weighs only 1.98 pound,i'm afarid of losing him and he looks very fine now as he can run, eat, play, etc. moreover, he doesn't have other clinical signs. | I am so sorry. Porshe is a beautiful little boy. I don't really know much about his condition, but I wanted to say it might be helpful for you to post this in the breeders section as well. There are some real knowledgable breeders that may have good advice/info for you!! I will send good thoughts and prayers for you and your little guy

| How old is he? What are his bile acid numbers before and after a meal? Does he have ammonium urate stones or another kind? Does the vet suspect a shunt? What are his liver levels (like ALT)?

| University of Tennessee has one of the highest success rates with liver shunt surgeries, especially on the really little ones. They do surgeries on extremely tiny yorkies all the time. If I were you and had to get surgery, this is the place where I would go. Dr. Tobias is wonderful. Ammonium urate stones ARE symptoms of liver shunt and liver problems. So, this actually is a symptom. What food is your baby on? How old is he? Have you joined the liver shunt/mvd group? There's a test that can be done that is non-invasive that will help better determine if your furbaby has hepatic microvascular dysplasia or liver shunt. It's called the Protein C test, and your vet would do bloodwork that they would send to Cornell...The information is in the FILES section of the liver shunt/mvd group. They are a wealth of information over there on that group regarding liver disease. Please consider joining. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/L...d_MVD_Support/

| Are you really in Thailand? University of Tennessee is the best but that seems like it isn't an option for you.
