Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | I have been goggle'n Biewers all day trying to figureout how and what exactly they are. Diggy has more and more white...not tan coming out. above eyes, chest, and his chin. I read some yorkies have this and it goes away but he is 14 weeks and is only getting whiter and bigger????? Not sure if you can tell from this pic but it was last week and the white is bigger and whiter today. Im just curious.

| I am no expert in any way, but until JeanieK and Kathy785 get here to fill you in...I believe that Beiwers come directly from German lines, while partis are yorkies that are born with the parti color, but can come from any yorkie line. I could be wrong. They are both oh so cute!

| Basically they are the same dog. Both were started from traditional colored yorkies carrying the piebald gene. When the piebald gene is in both parents it can result in a tricolored offspring. the Biewer line comes from Germany. they have their own breed club separate from the Yorkshire Terrier and standards have been set for their colors and color patterns. they also do not dock their tails. The parti line is an Aerican version of the Biewer. So far no club has been established and theycannot be shown, but they are AKC registered. |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I have Biewers too. There is a full history on my website under "history". But JeanieK basically gave you the answer. The piebald gene is in many yorkie lines; but because the white is a fault in the US, many early yorkie breeders spayed females or lines producing white. Those that didn't created what is now called the Parti here in the US. Mr. Biewer's yorkies produced the piebald puppies now called Biewers and they are german registered. If the dog is a Biewer it is related to Mr. Biewer's original dogs. |

| Never knew I did not know anything about them until joining YT. Still don't know much. I do know they are a beautiful dog! The only ones I have seen have been on YT and on the internet when I have looked them up. I would love to see one in person. I am jealous of you that own and/or breed them--they are BEAUTIES!

| Forgive my ignorant question. Does that mean that a yorkie with a white blaze on chest is likely to have the piebald gene?

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Well there is a IABCA dog show in Missouri June 23 & 24; another show in Hutto, TX June 30 & July 1; and one in S. California Aug 25 & 26. Come to one of the shows and watch these little beauties strut their stuff. |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Sorry Paula, I didn't see your question. My understanding that it is more than just the white blaze on the chest....especially if it doesn't turn dark as it grows out. The biewer standard is absolute on 4 white legs, chest and tip of tail. I didn't breed Yorkies so maybe one of the other breeders can speak to that. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | hmmmm I wonder if you can ne a little Biewer or Parti?? Diggy has the white in all spots you mention except feet the insides of his legs are really white as is his Belly...Okay this may sound weird but he is all white underneath except his ding ding and his family jewels those are black....its so obvious and when he rolls over for belly rub everyone laughs it really is very noticable.

In the case of both the Biewer’s and the Parti’s they can trace their lineage back to many generations of Yorkies which is why the AKC had to accept the Parti’s here in the U.S. The Biewer’s were accepted by the UCI and have a breed standard. Hopefully the following website will explain this further. http://www.italiangreyhound.org/health/pragenetics.html “Most genes have multiple "alleles" or choices that can be present at that site. Take the white markings in IG's for example. This gene has four alleles, solid, Irish marked, piebald (pied) and white. All IG's carry a copy of that gene that they inherited from each parent. Some have two copies of the Irish allele, some have two copies of the pied allele, and some have one copy of pied, and one copy of Irish. A dog that has one of each appears Irish (his phenotype), because the Irish gene is dominant and the pied gene is recessive. So when we see the dog, he is Irish, but actually his genotype is Irish with a pied recessive. When we breed this dog, he may produce pieds, since he is carrying the pied recessive. His phenotype does not reveal the true story of his genotype, and by looking at the dog, we have no way of knowing by his appearance that he carries the pied gene. This is a common situation with a recessive gene. Here is another site which also explains it and the paragraph at the bottom explains the direction DNA testing is going for these markers. http://homepage.usask.ca/~schmutz/dogcolors.html
