| night time barking - HELP!! Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm looking forward to learning lots! My yorkie Jaxon is 5 months old and we've had him since mid January. He is usually very good during the day but recently has started barking at night. This will continue for an hour or more! It's not exactly what you want at 2am. He has his own 'area' on the main floor of our home - baby gated, with his heating pad, bed, food and then the area where his puppy pads are. I know it's because of him being alone - as soon as we come downstairs he stops. Any suggestions on how to have him stop without us coming downstairs for him? I know that alllowing him to sleep with us would probably stop the problem but it's not what I want to do. Often once my husband gets up and leaves for work, the barking starts again until I get up. I don't mind him barking for a reason, but this seems like separation anxiety?? |

| Welcome to YT You might want to try bringing his crate up to your bedroom and put it on your night stand or beside your bed. He is probably just lonely downstairs at night and missing you guys. The fact that he's in the same room as you might stop the barking all together or if he starts barking all you have to do is put your hand over the side of the bed and pet him to let him know your there. My Bella's crate is in my bedroom and she never barks. Good luck !

| i agree with athina, best to move the crate to your room and let him sleep in the same room, but in his own bed. remember that dogs are pack animals and pack animals sleep together in a group. jaxon probably feels alone and abandoned when he's downstairs by himself at night and needs some assurances that you're still around. bunjee used to have total separation anexiety too. i ended up moving his crate to my bedroom and then he was fine through the night. nowadays, his crate is in the bedroom and he has an extra bed in the kitchen. he'll sleep either in his crate or in the kitchen by himself at night without any problems. if he needs me at night, he knows where i am. |

| So nobody agrees with me? I'm just kidding I have two and they both sleep in the bed with me! I just wanted to say Welcome to YT when I realized I hadn't done it! And I also concur. I think he's just lonely and being in the room will help. Good luck!
