i agree with athina, best to move the crate to your room and let him sleep in the same room, but in his own bed. remember that dogs are pack animals and pack animals sleep together in a group. jaxon probably feels alone and abandoned when he's downstairs by himself at night and needs some assurances that you're still around.

bunjee used to have total separation anexiety too. i ended up moving his crate to my bedroom and then he was fine through the night. nowadays, his crate is in the bedroom and he has an extra bed in the kitchen. he'll sleep either in his crate or in the kitchen by himself at night without any problems. if he needs me at night, he knows where i am.
