I used to do that years ago for a chihuahua we had, but she still hated that and would end up standing on three feet, because her feet got soooo cold! My little Muffin (yorkie) liked to play in it, but she wouldn't go potty in it. Thank goodness for that garage and pee pads! Kacee hates wet grass, too. She walks out the back door and checks out the grass and if it's wet, she'll walk back to the garage door and ask to go on her pads in there! Spoiled rotten yorkies!!!!

Great story, Mike! I can't think of anything you missed.

What I'm doing to get cheap and comfy shoes: I cut the fingers off garden gloves Brahma, the one with the rubber dots all around) in Summer and in Winter either rubber gloves or I just put rubber gloves fingers over the garden gloves 'shoes'. They are fixed with an elastic band with some velcro on the ends. To put them on, I lay Mitzi on her back like a baby and in no time the shoes are on. Mitzi loves them and won't walk without them anymore.

Cut off sweatshirt arms with two holes for the front legs make great Yorkie sweatshirts.

That's very clever. Next time you haul them out, snap a picture. I'd love to see how they look. I'm convinced that the secret is making them easy to put on. If they're not, no one is going to go to the hassle of doing it.

Just make nice warm coats ..haha they will love the snow for about as long as you will hehe

Sissy came to me in early November. MANY times at 5:15am during the winter as we were outside for her pottying, I thought just how crazy I was to get her when I did. But since I still go oustide with her for every potty and probably will continue to do so, I guess it really doesn't matter when you get your baby!!

Edie was born in Maine, and lived there for over 5 years. She enjoyed the snow most of the time. Here is a pic of her returning from "doing business" in the yard. You really can't tell, but it was a real BLIZZARD when this pic was taken. She was ready to come back inside.

Well Gucci hated the snow. I took her out last year and all she did was run to the door. She is pee pad train, so I guess it is my fault.

Here we go! It takes me about 1 minute to put them on, 10 min. to make them incl. the elastic strips with velcro and cost about 70 cents per set. I don't fix the strips to the shoes so I can use them over and over again even when the shoes have a hole. They are washable and when they are worn out (Mitzi manages always to get holes in them after 5 to 10 times wearing them) I just throw them away and make new ones. You get 2 sets out of 1 pair of gloves. The rubber dots are great on slippery surfaces. What I like most is that they are string knit and have no seams.

O.M.G.! That is the most ingenious idea I've ever seen! Well, for Yorkie booties, anyway. I just spent a fortune ordering some online from a company that makes them for sled dogs, and I'm not particularly happy with them. Yours are great! And, like you say, SIMPLE! I am totally going to steal your idea for boys!

And, if I ever get around to finishing my article, I'd love to include that! It's so simple, people might just try it, and the more Yorkies we can make happy in the winter, the more healthy Yorkies there are going to be.

GREAT article, Mike!! And you're right .... Mitzis Mom does have an ingenius idea for booties!!

We found that our little "Georgia Peach" absolutely loves the snow! We got up on March 12 to find that we had a beautiful unexpected snow! Very early, while it was still snowing big flakes and noone was out we took our little one to the park across the street from our condo. Everything was pristine and not a footprint anywhere. We got ready so quickly that she was only wearing her little red PJ's and sherpa coat. I put her down and she buried her little face in it and then began running around and playing. She ran so fast she was spraying snow everywhere! We let her play for awhile but not nearly as long as she wanted ... she would have played all day had we let her! Here's a few pics .... "bedface" & all!! ....
