| Outdoor heating problem OK you northerners will probably think this is a silly question coming from Texas ........ but, does anyone have any suggestions on some kind of heating device we can put out for our outside cats. It has been getting down into the 40's at night with really strong north winds. We have an igloo type dog house up off the ground with the opening out of the wind but would like something a little warmer. Any suggestions? |

| I know some people put a light in the doghouses for warmth. Also, something like a pillow or straw on the floor will help keep it warmer.

| My husband is trying to fix up a light system...but sometimes his inventions scare the heck out of me We have blankets in with them already. He has heard about something kind of like a heating pad for dog houses but don't know where to find them. |

| Hay is really good to keep in dog houses. Its supposedly retains heat better than blankets.

| Yes, I think hay is really good, but I wouldn't want to lay on it, so we have used hay (straw) and then a pillow on top, and then maybe a blanket on the pillow. I know that pillows are better than blankets too - it provides more insulation betweeen the cold ground and the kitty/dog. I like to keep a blanket on the pillow or straw because they can get "down in" the blanket, so that it is up around them, or even on top of them. My Yorkie boys (who do NOT stay outside) are masters at getting UNDER the blankets. Also, the light bulb will really keep it alot warmer too. And I know exactly what you mean - even though we live in Texas and the cold weather is nothing compared to up north, our furkids are not used to the cold and so we have to protect them, even when it seems a little silly - because IT'S NOT!
