Cry A very bad day...

I know this is hard to read but I'm posting this with the hope that it will make people think. I've read several messages where people leave their dog in the car 'for just a minute' and I think the biggest fear is that the dog will die of heat exhaustion or be stolen but, believe me, alot can happen in a minute.....

Tuesday evening our DIL's mother took some things out to the hospital to her brother and like she always does she took her 3 year old Boston Terrier along for the ride. She left the window down so he could have fresh air and planned only to be gone for a couple of minutes. When she returned to the car he was gone and nowhere to be found. Our DIL got some friends and they searched for several hours with no luck...her Mom went out again later that night but still no luck. Our DIL left for work Wednesday morning and has to take the Interstate exit by the hospital and that's when she saw him but it was too late, he had been hit and he was gone. They took him to her Mom's house and buried him in the back yard with a yellow rose planted on his grave. Her Mom is really having a hard time with this, she feels so guilty...our DIL was the breeder of the Boston and it was her birthday yesterday.

Please be careful with your babies...heat and theft aren't the only threats to them when they're left 'for just a minute'.

That is so sad. But I agree.. if you can't be with them or take them in with you, wherever you are going.. leave them at home. They will be better off.

I don't like seeing dogs in cars unattened at all..but especially when they are stressed and barking at everyone, jumping around.. getting HOTTER than they should.. I always think.. how much fun is that for that dog.. wouldn't he rather be at home sleeping.. ?

Good points you brought up.. Especially since... Tis the season...

It's so sad about her dog I find it so hard to believe that people still are leaving their pets in their cars...a lot of people just can't believe that someone would break their window to get to their pet...it only takes about 60 seconds to break a window & grab a pet....& you can be sure we will still see pets in cars in 80 degree heat this summer again, even though it's been on the news that it takes less than 15 min.to kill a pet...what a shame this happens when it's so preventable...thanks for the reminder....

I'm so sorry. I won't take my babies anywhere if there's a chance I might have to leave them in the car. I even worry when I have to go to work and leave my pets home alone. I'll keep your DIL, her mom and their family in my thoughts and prayers.

What a terrible thing to happen. Thank you for posting the reminder to everyone. Leaving a dog or any animal in a vehicle is wrong and can never be repeated enough.

omg thats so sad, i see alot of people do that and most of the time they dont have any windows down for them.

one time my sister in law seen this poor dog in the car crying and whining and she felt so bad she sat outisde target for like 30 mins and waited on no one came and so she went to go to get a soda and come back and she said he was still there and so she took him

i was like you didnt and she said well i cant belive that for an hour that someone would leave a little dog like that in the car.

she said it was like my franks but completely blonde

i told her that she could get into trouble and said people like that didnt need dogs

but in some cases people mean the best but some times spiteful people will elt them out to run and thats worse sometimes that leavig them alone

i just keep my franks inside or for walks
he gets car sick everytime we go somewhere, he gets so nervous.

but that is a very good lesson
and we should all pass it along also
thanks for posting and i will send lots of prayers and love to them in this time

thats so sad but at lest they had peace by finding him and knowing where he was at and being able to bury him

Thank you everyone. Our DIL had a horrible evening last night and I'm sure today wasn't good either. I know her Mom didn't mean to do any harm...she always took him with her and left the window down so he had air. We think he must have seen a rabbit or cat in the parking lot and squeezed out the window...either that or someone tried to take him and he got away. At any rate, they are devistated.

This is very sad and I am sorry to hear about it! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family! I always worry about things like that too....being too hot, someone stealing them or them getting out! I have heard too many stories...I would never take that chance.

Wow that is so sad. I'm very sorry this happened. I could just never leave any of my dogs unattended in a car, not only because of heat exhaustion but because I know that anything can happen, ppl can break in the car and steal them and to me they are like real babies. You wouldn't leave a baby in a car would you? People out there are sick and would do anything to make money, or to fill their empty lives with satisfaction. How did he get out the car? Was the door open when she got back, did someone break in? That is so sad...I know she must be so heart broken.

OMG! I"m so sorry about your family's loss. My son has a 2 year old Boston terrier and I know how great their personalities are. I'll be remembering your DIL and her mother in my prayers.

oh no !!! That's horrible ! They can squeeze thru some very tight place if determined - I've seen Cheri try to go thru a hole in my fence 1/4 her size....

I'm so so sorry he was killed. That's so sad and a good wake up call to those who do leave their dogs in the car....these days it just isnt safe even for a minute.

I can only guess that he either squeezed out of the window space or someone opened the door and let him out. She was in the hospital parking lot and they are in kind of a small town...things are relatively safe there but you just never know. I think he must have squeezed out after a cat or a rabbit.
