2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Thats "Men's" Work or is it "Wo"-men's work? There are so many things that need to be done around the house that are considers "Men's Work". Ok, so I add it to the "Honey Do" list and wait.... and wait, and wait for it to be done. Well after being with DH for almost 28 yrs I have come to realise that there is no such thing as "Men's Work" or "Honey Do" list. I realize very early in our relationship that if I want something done I best do it myself. Being home owners we find ourselves doing most of the work our selves. Self taught of course (electric, plumbing, drywall, flooring ect.) We do ok most of the time. Plus I learned how to use power tools as a young girl watching my father and what I didn't know how to do I taught myself, I love power tools. But lots of times I find myself sitting back and watching DH murder the heck out of something just so that I dont bruise his ego. But its not pretty watching a grown ass man have a hissy fit because he cant do something and has to redo it. Been there, done that... He gets so pissy when ever I try to step in and do it or suggest a better way of doing it. Not that I am an expert at doing everything. Believe me we've had ton of oops, and uh oh incidents while trying to improve our home. But I am pretty darn good at using the power tools. And lets face it.... I'd be waiting until the cows came home if I sat back and waited for DH to get it done. And since we are city folk that would be a pretty long time! Which brings me to my question. What "Men's Work" can You (women) do Better than your Husbands? change a light switch or elec socket finish drywall get a straight cut using a curricular saw miter cuts using a compound miter saw .

YT 2000 Club Member | Wow, I can't do any of those things! My DH is the fixer, plumber, electrician, auto mechanic, carpenter, chef, yard worker..... he is the jack of all trades! I am the "Mom" of the house and I do the cooking, cleaning, laundry, mending, nose wiper, nurse, diaper changer, bathe giver, etc! I worked outside of the home for 20 yrs plus years and now am a stay at home grandma. I have only used a drill, when I helped build our deck! Kudos to you if you are that handy around the house!

| I can do it all but the mitre saw. I learned from my daddy too and I have my own power tools that my DH isn't allowed to use. I have installed light fixtures and ceiling fans too. Finished sheetrock and helped my dad redo a bathroom in our house when we had a leak (floor was destroyed before we knew there was a leak). I can also do some basic car stuff on my 65 mustange, changing oil and have even put a fuel pump on it. If I waited on my DH to do stuff inside the house it would never get done.

I can do everything but electrical and plumbing. Those I leave for dad or a professional. I love the compound mitre saw. The only thing he wouldn't let me do until this week was use the lawnmower. I finally talked him into letting me mow the lawn because the pollen and mold here are too hard on him.

| I can hold my own in most things. I definitely outpace hubby in anything that requires more than a thimble full of patience. He just doesn't have any. And he has a bad habit of not finishing projects. Example, the chair rail in my kitchen has been up for almost 4 years, and the nail holes have never been filled, sanded, and painted. There is still painters tape on top of the door facings, and the finish trim has never been put back in the hallway where he replaced the carpet with laminate flooring. I work for a trade school that specializes in plumbing and HVAC, so I'm covered there. One of my brothers is an electrician, so I'm good there, too.

| Well, my hubby is a certified master plumber so there is no way I do any of that better. lol I can't do any of the other stuff and neither can he. LOL..we hire people. Yard work is the big one..cutting the grass and also taking out the trash (I do that because if I didn't - it would overflow into the floor). But he WILL cut the grass - I just don't let him. He aims the stupid riding mower AT the road and AT my windows. I've told him three times which direction to ride it when doing the yard so everything goes toward the middle of the yard and not passing cars and at my windows. He won't listen. The last time I heard a rock ping off my living room window was the last time he was allowed to touch the keys to the lawn mower

| Oh nothing.... I do nothing better than him, well except paint rooms and hang things back on the walls. Other than that, we have very clearly defined who does what when it comes to the house. I am not mowing the lawn and cleaning the bathroom... so I clean inside and he does outside work. Period! LOL I will plant a garden though and I will clean up outside and help open and close the pool .... see once I do it once it will become my job. So I refuse to mow the lawn. We do do most things together though. We did our kitchen and we both did parts. I stripped, sanded and painted all the cabinets. When we did our living room floor I was right there, ripping and hauling out carpet, screwing down the subflooring, etc... But there are some things that are JUST a guys job!

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Its good to see that I am not alone when it comes to getting the "Honey Do" list done. There are some very talented ladies here. Whether it be working with power tools or something else. I would like to tackle putting in the ceiling fan in our den/child care room. That thing is still in the box in the garage and has been for 6 yrs. Im just afraid that we/ I may not get it secure enough and it will come crashing down on my daycare kids. I also do the mowing in the front and side yard with the riding mower, the kids do the back. Hubby is the bread winner in our home so I do do most of the work in and outside. But still you think the man could at least take out the darn trash before the dogs get a chance to have an unforbidden snack when it is overflowed onto the floor. We do do most things together when it comes to the upkeep of the home but we usually end up disagreeing on how it should be done and he takes forever to do it. Hubby is such a procrastinator. He has to check out every little thing and than go back and look again and again. It drives me nuts, I would much rather just get the crap and just do it myself and get it done.

| The only thing I can't do that Chad can is reach the top shelf and lift super heavy objects. I do all the handy work. He can't really do anything in that area. Luckily he knows that he will screw things up if he tries and leaves it all to me. He loves doing yard work, laundry and dishes so yayness for that!

There is one thing I wish that really wish I could do -- ladders. I'm afraid of heights so I won't mess with extension ladders, and dad is too old.

| Wow you women impress the heck out of me, I can't do any men's work and LOL that is fine with me. I do a lot of gardening but when it comes to even cutting the grass, or trimming the big bushes he does that, heck I even expect him to take out the trash. However I am lucky he is very good at just about everything in fact he is finishing our walkout basement right now and doing everything himself as well as building new boat motors for our boat, LOL last year he wanted an expensive peddle bike so he bought all the parts and built it himself. However he knows almost nothing about doing wash, ironing, cooking, grocery shopping or sewing a button on. I guess we are old fashioned that way and that's fine with me. Hopeful Kazzy will post on this thread, she is amazing she is remodeling her house and finishing rooms almost totally alone, she can even hang drywall and installing woodwork. I told her not to tell my husband about all that

| Wow, this is a great question. I have been very blessed to be married to a man who does most everything well. When we first bought this old house, he went to the library to learn how to do electrical work. He's smart enough to know he didn't want to be the one to make the final connections but he could do most everything else. The two major remodeling projects (upstairs bath and kitchen) we had done by others as it was a time issue. DH was just working so many hours it would have taken us months to get those done. He is good though!! The one thing that I can do better than he can is back up a trailer. We learned this way back when our girls were little (started camping before the youngest could walk) and he could not back up our little pop up camper into the camp space. I finally said, let me have a try and first attempt I got it right in. After that, backing up the camper was always my job. I had never done that before and don't realize why I can do it so easily but I was glad to find something that I could do better than he could do. LOL Oh one more thing. I wallpaper, all by myself! Proud of that!!

YT 2000 Club Member | Wow, I am impressed with the many handy and self sufficient women! I would be scared to death to use a electric saw or electrical work! Kudos to all of the talented women on YT!
