| Woman arrested... SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - A woman was arrested after authorities found more than 100 live dogs, cats, birds, goats and a duck in her small, 3-bedroom house. Officials say they also found 13 dead dogs wrapped in towels in a freezer and refrigerator in Cynthia Walsh's kitchen on Wednesday. Walsh, 56,was arrested for investigation of animal cruelty after sheriff's deputies and animal services officers went to her home based on an anonymous complaint. She was released on $6,010 bail. Walsh could not be reached for comment at her home Thursday. Animal Services manager Eric Anderson described the conditions in the house as "defying anything imaginable." Deputies who entered the house wore hazardous-material suits and oxygen masks, said Det. Keith Scott, one of eight deputies there. "Even through the mask, the smell was horrific," Scott said. "The carpet was totally black and worn down - it looked like a Brillo pad. It was bad." Deputies spent 10 hours collecting the animals, which were taken to the county animal shelter. Officials said they did not know where Walsh got the animals or how long she had been keeping them. None had been adopted from Animal Services in recent years, Anderson said. The dogs did not appear to be malnourished but officials would have to examine them to determine their medical conditions, he said. Unbelievable

| I think it is so sad when I hear these stories. Anyone who would hoard that many animals and live like that has to be mentally unstable.

| They should have set her bail at a million!!! (and then denied it) There is no excuse for placing these animals in such horrid conditions.

| No bail should have been allowed...put her in a cell, and do not let her go out to the bathroom that way she has to s**! on the floor and after oh 3 or 4 months she would know how those poor animals felt..... shamefull

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's really horrible and those poor animals ...but someone MUST be mentally unstable to live like that At at least they weren't malnurished - I don't understand it ...but some stories I've read where people hoard animals... usually consist of starving flea infested dogs / cats who are on deaths door - those are the people I want to hurt. But then again - 13 dead dogs found in the freezer .....THAT is sick. The good thing is now those poor animals will all get medical attention and hopefully get new homes - but I think the woman needs a hospital not jail |

| The dogs did not appear to be malnourished Isn't that a miracle!!! And, don't you agree that a person like this is really mentall ill. Having that many animals and living in those conditions is far far from normal. I think she needs psychiatric help - perhaps even hositalization --- not fines or jail!!!! A person like this can be made to pay fines and spend time in jail, but it doesn't help her with her problem, and I would think that she will later resort to the same behavior if she doesn't receive help. I know you all want to hang her up by her heels - but I think she seriously needs help, counseling, and treatment for her problem....don't want it happen again in the future. Carol Jean |

| That story sounds like what happen here in Québec, a man was kipping 100 Fox terriers in his house and they were in terrible condition. Of course I also think that people doing that that kind of thing are insane. Poor animals.
