| Any Pharmacy Technicians out there? Hello, Im wondering if anyone can give me some info on this field. How long will it take to finish school for a pharm tech? Is it expensive? Im wanting to get certified or get licensed in something. Im 27 and I dont have a college degree. Is this something i can do? A friend suggested to me so i thought I'd look into it. Does anyone know a school around the Los Angeles area? Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance! |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Most pharm techs are trained on the job...it isn't necessary to be certified. Thinking of the ones that work in the pharmacies closest to me....age isn't a factor either as they are all very young and I mean in their late teens/early twenties. It isn't a really well paying job although since you're in CA....it would be necessary to pay a wage comparable to the area. Here's some quick info. Pharmacy Technicians Good luck

| I was a pharmacy technician for 2 years before Walgreens started cutting hours. But anyways thats a whole nother story.. When I worked there which was up until Feb 2009, I never got certified because I never planned to work there for a long time (I am going to go to Pharmacy school). But after I left (At least here in FL) from what I heard all of the technicians will need to be certified before they can continue to work in the pharmacy. I dont know much about the cost of the class, but I have friends that bought the books and studied on their own and got certified. Pay wise im not sure what it is in Cali, but in Florida I was making $11 an hour and I was part time not certified. Hope this helps!!!

Yea thats Definately not true!!! Pharmacists dont even make that an hour!! Usually the pay range is from like 8-15 or so from what I've been told. All the people that I have known that took the test passed so hard wise I dont know..

| I went to a local school for pharmacy technician. I ended up paying quite a bit for it too and now I don't even work in the field anymore. At the end of the course I did take my certification exam and passed. |

| Maybe for being a pharmacist but not a tech.......I started out at $9.50/hr and then when I became certified I was bumped to $10.50/hr. I LOVED working in the pharmacy and did have dream of becoming a pharmacist but because of my DH's work schedule and kids, I gave it up. |

| Here in KS, if you are willing to travel, you can sign up to fill in for absent pharmacists and get paid $90 per hr. Our daughter is doing her rotations this year. Can't wait until she is on her own. Putting her through pharm school hurt the pocketbook.
