| Anyone have or had the mirena? My Dr. told me this was the best way for me to go with birth control since I cant do hormone and Ive been sick since Ive gotten it. Cramps that curl me up, constant nausea, muscle spams in my lower back , and Ive bleed every day since insertion! I went to see my Dr. and he said it either wasnt related or will go away in time. I really need to know this will get better or just have it removed. Can anyone help me? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I know who Twalla is talking about (I think) and I believe hers was kind of inserted wrong and got messed up and they really had to remove it. How long ago was it inserted? Some symptoms after insertion are rather normal - but otherwise, they should do an ultrasound/exam to make sure it hasn't moved into a dangerous position.

| I have no experience with the mirena but I did have the paraguard IUD for 3 years could be left in for 10yrs. I went with that one because it has no hormones at all. I will say insertion wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be, and my first period afterwards was very painful and heavy, as the months went by it got back to normal. I had no side effects, no pain, nothing...which is scary considering I found out I had a very bad infection and the IUD had dropped lower than desired when i went for my yearly. Had to take the IUD out and was on 6 weeks of antibiotics. Had I not been seeing the doc regularly doc said I could have ended up with a hysterectomy. They say infection is rare..guess I was one of the unlucky ones. so I cant say I recomend it, but again nothing may go wrong.

Sheesh, if you are truly having severe symptoms -- it is NO time for counseling; rather, they NEED to do an US or at the very least an exam. How do they know an infection related to insertion and/or the device moving, hasn't set in?

| im sorry i thought you were thinking about getting it. after insertion i went home, cooked, cleaned I was fine but the next few days I did have cramping but nothing that was making me rethink the whole IUD, so I wouldnt say its normal. as I said before my first period was very close to what labor contractions felt like thats when i started rethinking the IUD lol but the next few months were getting better, then to the point where i forgot I had it.

| It was put in the 12 of march. I know that wasnt all that long ago, just a month, but Im in pain every day. I wasnt warned of any pain past a week or so. My biggest complaint is the bleeding. I havent stopped since insertion. And the joint pain. My joint are screaming like its winter in MI but Im in hot texas. The last DR. listened to my complaints and said bleedings normal, the pain will pass, and anything else is in my head. didnt even want to look and see if it was in correctly. I dont feel to good about that appointment so were off to try agian. |

| Loved Mine... I had one put in not too long after my daughter was born..the first weekend was pure HELL cramps, bleeding, and vomiting after about 2 weeks though all of my symptoms subsided and all was well for 3 years...I only had to go in once to have the string clipped b/c it had moved but I could always tell when it was moving because my lower back would hurt. I also hardly ever had a period which was fabulous!!! I am actually going on May 11 to have it put back in since we have found out we can no longer have children and every time I get pregnant I will have a miscarriage and my insurance will not pay for me to have a hysterectomy yet.

| You need a new doctor. I have so many issues and I've been through doctors that dismissed my pain, nausea and other problems for years. I finally found one that takes it seriously and understands how much pain I am in. I still have to stand up for myself because the nurses still act like I am crazy, but I know my body does not behave in ways they consider "normal" so I have to constantly defend myself but I've become very educated on the subject and once they realize I do know what I'm talking about, they stop being so dismissive. I would try to find either a new doctor or a specialist. Good luck.
