| Which way to wear the ring? I've been married for 2 1/2 years and I'm still trying to figure this out. Some people have told me that you put your wedding ring on first, then your engagement ring, but the other people have told me that your engagement ring goes on first, then your wedding ring. Which way do you wear it?

| Traditionally the day of the ceremony you switch your engagement ring to the ring finger of your right hand so your left ring finger is free for the wedding band . Then after the ceremony you switch your engagement ring back over to your left hand . So the wedding band would be first and then the engagement ring .

| Your wedding band goes on first so it's the closest to your heart...then your engagement ring goes on. So, if you hold your hand up in front of you your wedding ring would be on the bottom. Anyway, that's what I've always been told so that's how I've always worn mine. |

| I wear the engagement ring on top of the wedding ring. I don't think one way is more right than the other- some sets just look better a certain way. Some people also like to slip there engagement ring off at certain times (swimming, gardening- to clean it) and it's a little easier if it's on top. Mine always feels like it's in the way and I end up never wearing it- poor hubby.

| Okay, I did a little research and from what I gathered there is no "right way". They say some people where the wedding ring first to be "closer to the heart" and some where the engagement ring first because of the series of events. I've been wearing my wedding ring first because I think it looks better that way... my rings look silly the other way lol

Exactly the way I wear mine. My hubby put my wedding band on my finger almost 28 years ago and it has come off only for repairs (twice) and for surgery - I was so pissed because they wouldn't just tape over it. I don't always wear my engagement ring, so I can take it off without removing my wedding band. | ||

| I wear my engagement ring first, then wedding band... A jeweler told me I am wearing it wrong... this is the way "widowers" wear it...... (my husband said "just keep on hoping!" ). I wear it the wrong way... it is wedding band closest to your heart.... oh well!

| This is an interesting thread. I was wondering if the way you wear those rings makes a difference. I'm going to ask my mom and see if she tells me a different story.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I too always understood you wear your wedding band closest to your heart, so that goes on first, then your engagement ring.

| Besides variances on which ring comes first, there's also the religious aspect which dictates which HAND the rings should be on--left vs. right. Wedding ring - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I went along with this one: "Another practice holds that the woman should wear the wedding ring above the engagement ring, thus sealing the atmosphere of the engagement into the marriage." But it wasn't really the sentiment of it all that made me choose to wear my engagement ring under. It was because after having been with the guy for hmm, 11 years, he thought his wife-to-be had chubby fingers (Size 6 loose even on my thumb...) when he went to pick it out. I'm not the kind to care enough to get it resized. It was hilarious how it just kept flying off my finger for the entire time before I had my wedding band (Size 4.5 and still slides off fine) placed on top of it to hold it in. LOL. He's lucky I'm not a jewellery kind of gal to begin with. |
