| LOOK what squirrels are doing to my tree!! Over the last week or so, squirrels are going nuts over a tree in our backyard! They are completely stripping the bark off of it! At first, I thought they were eating it but nope, they are chewing it off and then spitting it back out on the ground! Next time I take the dogs out to potty, I'll get a picture of the ground- it's covered in little chunks of bark! Help! rsz_1rsz_GEDC1457.jpgrsz_1rsz_GEDC1458.jpgrsz_1rsz_GEDC1461.jpg And here's one of them! rsz_1rsz_GEDC1459.jpg

| I found this online: Squirrels are pulling bark off my redwood trees. Will this harm the tree? Unfortunately, tree squirrels strip bark from trees in order to feed on the cambium layer. This can cause the death of the tree if the damage is extensive, but this usually does not happen. On small trees, you can cover the stripped areas with 1-inch mesh poultry netting. For additional information on the behavior and management of squirrels, send a self-addressed, stamped 42-cent business-sized envelope to PN 74122, UC Cooperative Extension, 4145 Branch Center Road, Sacramento, CA 95827. I'm going to keep searching around...any one else have experience with this?

| Wow, I have never heard of this or seen this in my life. That's so weird. Maybe call a gardening center or nursury and ask what you can do?

| Weird. at a place I used to live we had squirrels everywhere, but they never did that. I think they are such cute little stinkers. They used to sit on the fence and talk to Duke. And they would bury little acorns in the dirt. I think they are cute to watch.

| I know, it is SO WEIRD! The dogs are loving it though...I can almost guarantee that they'll be at least one squirrel out there for them to chase at all times! On one of the sites I've came across, it mentioned that if the bark is pulled off all the way around any part of the tree, the tree will die at that point!

| That's why I say ALL SQUIRRELS MUST DIE. Seriously though I fight battles with the squirrels all summer long. I feed the birds and even have a squirrel-proof bird feeder but it's amazing how hard they work to outsmart it. |
