| mixed emotions. some of you know that im a dog trainer at petsmart. well i put in my 8 week notice today(i have to give an 8 week notice to finish classes ive started). a part of me is relieved because this means no more working weekends, no more unpredictable paychecks(getting payed off of commisions), no more crazy customers who expect me to be the dog whisperer and cure their vicous dog after it tries to bite my hand off, no more getting called into work when the other trainers quit. im actually going to have a steady paycheck, time to spend with my family, and a normal schedule. but at the same time im kind of depressed about leaving. i have grown really close to a couple of my coworkers (one of my managers has been my boyfriend for 2 years now... shhhh...) i've worked for the company for 4 years, i absolutely love when i actually get to help someone with their dog. you have no idea how rewarding it is to see the excitment on someones face when their dog finally sits for the first time, or lays down, or rolls over. im going to miss my head manager who has stood up for me, taught me alot about animals, and i almost look up to her as an aunt or something now. im going to miss the regulars who brought their dogs in when they were 12 weeks old and are now full grown. blah! i just feel kinda weird right now.... i wish i could afford to keep this as a part time job... but i need to move out,i need to pay off credit cards, and i need to finish getting through school. i just needed to vent...

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I understand how you feel. It's tough a decision to leave a job you care for and for the most part enjoy. I worked for our local school and still miss the kids...you grow to love working with them. But sometimes it is just necessary to move on with your career, especially if your current one is not getting you where you want to be. Maybe you could still fill in on an occasional Sat. for a trainer that can't be there. You might feel better keeping in touch just a little. The mixed emotions will fade as you begin another chapter in your life though. Good luck!

| Good Luck. It sounds like you are doing whats best for you! I just put in my notice at my job too after working there 8 yrs. My job is at a church with kids, but I feel the same way you do about your job, except mine has been with kids. I'm really going to miss the kids, but I've been working at this job for 8 yrs, and still make the same amount I did when I was hired (which isn't very much). So if you need to talk to someone in a similar situation, I'm always here to listen.

| Aww, Stacy, I'm so sad, for you as well as me! I was hoping I'd get to go to your classes again with my next baby. But it sounds like you're doing what's best for you, and thats great! I'm sure your mixed emotions will level out after leaving. Just think about all the positives! Its going to benefit you in the end when you achieve everything you want. And your bf can always keep you filled in on the regulars and all your co-workers. Maybe its not the best time to ask, but I was actually thinking about applying there. Do you know how it is to work in the store area? How did you get involved in training?

you can apply online at petsmart.com! theres a little test u have to take now i guess... but after you do, let me know and ill tell my manager about you! as far as positions go... i still think trainer is the best position in the store. (the only position that gets to bring their dog to work) :-) cashier was ok... but got kinda boring after a while. the petshotel is pretty kool too. if u apply... let me know... and ill make sure my manager checks out your application.

| Leaving a long time job is HARD! It is going to feel like you are leaving behind friends and 'family-type' people. you grow attached and comfortable.... Ive left many jobs, Im a job hopper bc I work in computer/hi-tech, so I go where the money and jobs are when mine gets stagnant! Trust me that you are doing the right thing at this point... the sadness will pass and you'll be excited to grow and expand to your full potential! Good Luck with your new endeavor!!
