| Cable companies...GRRRRR OK, I'm venting! We had a lightning strike in our back yard on Sat.AM which hit our buried TV cable and blew a big whole in the ground and severed the cable. It is now Tues AM and after being promised on Sat that it would be fixed in 24hrs, I have yet to see a service man!! I have called about 5 times and each time they tell me a service person will be out shortly!! Paying the stupid cable bill always raises my blood pressure a few points because I don't know why it has to be so expensive, can someone explain to me what I'm paying for???? Personally, I haven't missed the TV, but my husband is going thru serious CNN and ESPN withdrawal which is making my life miserable. Plus, they can't finish my homeowners ins claim til I find out if the TV got damaged(we had to replace the well pump because it got hit) and I can't do that til I get my cable back!! GRRRRRR!!!!! Thanks for letting me vent!! |

| Isn't it irritating?! We had a big problem with our cable internet service a while back. On 3 or 4 seperate occasions they sent "service" men to the house to fix it. Do you think it worked?! One of them came at the end of the day on a Friday and was making drinking plans with a friend while he was there. Needless to say, he was quite worthless and nothing was fixed. I would definitely demand some sort of a refund for not having cable for so long. You're right about cable prices- and for what?! We have 100 channels and no pay channels (HBO, etc.) and the TV bill is $60-$70 a month! I wish you could pick and chose which channels you wanted and get rid of the rest. We probably watch 10 channels out of the 100. Cable is definitely over-priced. |

| I totally feel your pain. I don't want to hijack your thread, but I have a cable story too -- I recently had to have a cable man over because I wasn't getting the same channels in my daughter's room that I had in the living room and one of them was one of the 24 hour cartoon channels that she likes and I can't take a steady diet of. Anyway, I tried on 3 different occassions to have someone come out and they never did. Then I finally called and told them send someone or I will cancel my service and so they said someone would come by 4. Well at 6:30 in the evening, he came out and come to find out, the cable running from the wall was bad. So he's quizzing me about who hooked it up and telling me that it is all wrong and they never use that quality and basically chewing me out, and I was like hey, I paid for one of your company's guys to come out here and hook that up, so if it's wrong it is the company's fault, not mine. I finally said, hey just fix it and we'll worry about the rest later. So, it takes him 1 hour and a half to replace the cable line from the wall to the TV. That's because his phone kept ringing and he was fussing with his girlfriend. I was so frustrated! Then, I got a bill for $40 for him coming hook it up "right" when I already paid them $20 to hook it up and they were the ones who hooked it up wrong in the first place!! I finally got that taken off my bill, but still. I pay $100 a month for 100 channels + HBO (hubby says we can't live without HBO ) and I think it is just ridiculous. I'm seriously thinking about going to Satellite because it is so much cheaper, but I'm just afraid they won't work right. I've heard they don't work when it is cloudy and stuff. I don't know if that is true or not.

| Well, here I am with the continuing cable saga. I called at noon because no one still has shown up, and guess what? I wasn't even on the list today for a service call. I told the lady that if someone isn't here by 5PM I'm cancelling my account. My son and his fiancee are on their way to WalMart so I told them to check out Direct TV equipment. I have friends that have had Direct TV for quite a few years and they said that sometimes when there's bad storms that you lose a few channels til the storm passes, but it's not bad at all. I think I could put up with that. By the way, tarawood, I know what you're talking about with husbands and HBO. We have to have that so he can watch that nasty series, Deadwood. I never watch it, would rather rent a movie than watch HBO |
