| Un-learned to be friendly? Questions for my YTers out there.... Since the cold weather hit the NYC area, I dont get to walk Duke as much as I usually do during the other seasons. Now when I take him out, he pulls ont he leash more and barks at other pets/people more than he usually does. He is also more difficult to control once he starts barking. I'm considering about taking him to an obidience class but is is possible for him to unlearn his friendly behaviors? And since he knows the sit/stay/come commands, should I still enroll him in the basic basic class? Thanks

| I would start him in the basic class. Keeping him socialized, especially since he is inside mostly during the cold, is key to training his behavior. The more he meets and greets, the better he will be. I don't think they unlearn to be friendly, it is more about being around others.

| His lack of contact with other people./pets during the cold weather might have made him fearful. It is also possible that he does not feel that you are the pack leader and he feels the need to protect you. Cesar Milan (The Dog Whisperer) addresses this issue. In fact it is the cause of most dog behavuior issues. You can watch him on The national Geographic Channel. or get his Books and DVD's from www.theDogchannel.com |
