| Bad Breath Hi everyone I'm from Cape Town, South Africa and this is my first time to say hello to all the yorkie lovers. I have a 7 month old female yorkie and is going to have her spayed after her first heat and also have her extra teeth removed at the same time. I brush her teeth every day, but still her breath smells bad. It must be the baby teeth that has to be removed. Do any of you have ideas how to get her breath smell better? |

| Hi and WELCOME to YT!!!! Baby teeth can cause bad breath and removing them while she is being spayed is the best way. I would also suggest that you get her spayed BEFORE her first heat as that can help prevent some cancers down the road. She should have all of her adult teeth by now so removing the baby teeth will definitely help. 3 of my girls had both sets of teeth when i got them around a year old. Each was spayed and all baby teeth removed. They all did perfectly and have had NO problems eating!! Post some pictures of your baby girl! We would love to see her!! |

| Thank you so much for replying so quick. You have the most beautiful yorkies!! It is so interesting to read all the questions and comments on all the different subjects, I really enjoy it so much. I talked to a dog breeder who is also a terrier judge and have a lot of doggy knowledge and he suggested that I have her spayed after her first heat. He says before her first heat, a dogs urinary system is not completely developed and sometimes they can have problems if she is spayed at a too early age. I have already posted a few photos of my doggies under my name if you would like to have a look. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome. My 8 month old puppy is due to go in Tuesday for spaying but I think she is coming into heat. My breeder prefers you let them come into first heat and then spay, my vet wants her spayed before if possible. She will also have her baby teeth removed and her breath should smell better. Post more pictures of your cuties.

| I have just read some other threads about bad breath. There were a few people who wrote that they also had the teeth removed at the same time, at about 6 to 7 months, but at the age of 1 year they saw that there were more baby teeth that came out after the operation. Then they again had to go for the removal of the teeth. So now I am definitely waiting after her first heat, maybe all her baby teeth will then be out. Hope your babies teeth has all grown out. |

| Hi Magda, I live in JHB and when I bought my first Yorkie, the breeder gave me an anti-bacterial mouth spray. It works like a bomb. I'll get the details and PM them to you tomorrow. I think it is part of the Wumpum range of products.
