| Biewer, Parti, Yorkie ?? I was just reading a post and a lot of people meantioned Parti and Biewer. What is the difference in the two of them? I kinda thought they were the same but now I am not so sure. The only types of Yorkie that I do know about are Spoiled Yorkies, and Spoiled Rotten Yorkies. LOL Seriously what is the difference?

Seriously though to answer your question, both the Parti and Biewer carry a recessive piebald gene. The Biewer Yorkshire Terrier was developed in Germany, and can be traced back to German lines. A standard has been set for the Biewer. The Parti comes from America and is still in the development stage. There are Parti's that are registered with the AKC presently, but I think AKC or YTCA have voted against it now. Not sure of all the details... but there is quite a controversy surrounding these "off-colored" yorkies. If you want to learn more, you can search on this site for Biewer or Parti and can find a whole bunch of info... Hopefully some of the Parti owners will come on and tell you more about their dogs. Anymore questions... be sure to ask away -- we're just like everyone else... we love to talk about our babies!!!

| I think they're the same, but I'm not sure. I have a Biewer, and don't see a difference in the Parti.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | The major difference is the pedigree--if they are born of two AKC registered Yorkies--they are parti-Yorkies. Parti-yorkies do not have a standard. They may be different from one another in their colorings, one white paw for example. If they are of German Registered Biewers, they are Biewers. They have a set standard of 4 white paws, chest, chin and at least tip of tail being white. And yes they keep their tails. More info and pictures on my website. |

As I've been told (don't know if it's true or false) disqualification will only happen in the show ring. So where you've had black and gold dogs enter the show ring for conformation (and win champion status), they and all the other off colors will no longer be able to show in conformation classes.

You will find that many people could care less what the YTCA does and does not accept so long as AKC still allows it.

| They can be show in AKC classes, just not in the conformation classes. I think it's a terrible shame, that so many just don't understand (and don't want to understand) genetics and how recessive genes work. :-)
