| Please clear up old WIVES/Granny tales.. I read on here in several different posts that we can give our pups canned pumpkin or cottage cheese to help empty their bowels from time to time. Mines won't eat the canned pumpkin. One person typed that they didn't feed their dog for an entire day because they hadn't had a bowel movement. It was suggested that they squeeze the glands to help them release. A lot of us are scared or don't know how to squeeze the glands, so we depend the vet and groomers. I've posted in the past about Kodak having to have his glands squeezed periodically as he has had problems in the past. I still can't do it though. So I asked my mom to pick up some cottage cheese for me because they will eat that and usually poop sometime afterwards. WELL, my grandmother tells her not to pick up any cottage cheese because that stops them up not releases them. She told her that "back in the day" they didn't use cottage cheese, they used olive oil. She then cut Kamari's hair up top that I usally have up in a ponytail without my permission. She CHOPPED it straight across with the scissors, saying that she could get pink eye with her hair in her face. Mind you, if Kamari would stop fighting Kodak, her band would stay in her head and no hair would be in her face. I was so mad but outta respect to grandma, II refrained. I told my mom to tell her don't ever make a decision to cut any hair on my dogs. Anyways, is the cottage cheese and the pink eye old wives tales or true? She no longer has the little ponytail in the picture since grandma groomer opted to chop instead of putting it back in a pig tail as she calls them. BAWAAAAHHHHH.

| Oh my goodness! You must be so upset! As far as the cottage cheese goes, though...Grandma may be right. Cottage cheese is good to feed them to firm up their stools if they have diarrhea...at least I've used it for tummy bugs before...I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. But pumpkin is supposed to help constipation but that's only if you can get them to eat it! Maybe you can mix it with some yummy wet dog food or something. Other people may know more than me, but here I am putting my 2 cents in anyway..hehe

| I'll leave this to the experts, because now I'm totally confused.

| When Gypsy had the runs, my mom said to give her some cottage cheese and it worked. But when I mentioned it to the vet she said it usually does the opposite (makes them loose).

| Overeating and/or lack of exercise can cause constipation in dogs just like in people. Make sure the puppy has fresh water at all times and is put outside every hour for potty and play breaks. If need be, try giving salmon oil. Get the gel caps, bite a hole and squeeze into some warm broth. (about 1/8 cup of broth) |

| Uhoh! I may owe granma an apology even though she hasn't apologized for cutting Kamari's bangs. Ok, here's my dilema, Kamari's stool is just fine, but Kodak seems to be constipated. He has not pooped all day and he won't get his glands squeezed for a while. I just want him to release today as Kamari has done twice already.

as for the pumkin what I have read its good for upset tummys and the runny poops to help firm them up. But I dont know because I have never tried the pumkin.I have not had any dog with problems with their anal glands. As for pink eye. The dogs hair being in the eye can cause irritation and or an infection but dont know about the pink eye. | |

| Haven' been on here almost all summer but I saw this and thought I should respond. I give all three of my doggies cottage cheese every evening. I say to them 'are you ready for your CC?' and they're going nuts! I put it with their iams toy hard pellets and that is their evening meal. They love it and have VERY nice little poopies. Not too firm, not too loose. |

| I've tried the canned pumpkin, it seemed to work, after a few times of them eating it....however, they turned thier noses up at it at first. I had to take the one in one room away from the others to eat it. It seems a little slow at working, but after a little while it dose. Never heard anything about cottage cheese..... yorkiemomma7 |
