Default Please clear up old WIVES/Granny tales..

I read on here in several different posts that we can give our pups canned pumpkin or cottage cheese to help empty their bowels from time to time. Mines won't eat the canned pumpkin. One person typed that they didn't feed their dog for an entire day because they hadn't had a bowel movement. It was suggested that they squeeze the glands to help them release. A lot of us are scared or don't know how to squeeze the glands, so we depend the vet and groomers. I've posted in the past about Kodak having to have his glands squeezed periodically as he has had problems in the past. I still can't do it though. So I asked my mom to pick up some cottage cheese for me because they will eat that and usually poop sometime afterwards.
WELL, my grandmother tells her not to pick up any cottage cheese because that stops them up not releases them. She told her that "back in the day" they didn't use cottage cheese, they used olive oil. She then cut Kamari's hair up top that I usally have up in a ponytail without my permission. She CHOPPED it straight across with the scissors, saying that she could get pink eye with her hair in her face. Mind you, if Kamari would stop fighting Kodak, her band would stay in her head and no hair would be in her face. I was so mad but outta respect to grandma, II refrained. I told my mom to tell her don't ever make a decision to cut any hair on my dogs.
Anyways, is the cottage cheese and the pink eye old wives tales or true?
She no longer has the little ponytail in the picture since grandma groomer opted to chop instead of putting it back in a pig tail as she calls them.
BAWAAAAHHHHH.
