| They had to shave Lucy :( So I took Lucy to her first grooming appointment on Saturday morning and she had these mats on her belly and legs and also a few on her back, well the groomer said that this first grooming experience should be enjoyable for her, which I totally agreed, and said the best thing to do would be to shave her (well cut her really short) and start all over. And that's what they did, she looks like a schnauzer now because her face has regular length hair and her body is so short and all of her little black puppy hair is gone How long does it usually take for their hair to start growing back?

| Don't worry..... Their hair grows FAST! They look funny for a couple of weeks, but then they get even cuter than before! This time the coat will be even better....you'll see. And hey, it's summer! Just be sure she doesn't get chilled in A/C. |

| Well if it were my dog, I would say tomorrow haha, her hair grows so fast but I would think about a month. If it is that short don't forget to put sunscreen on her and keep her out of the sun from noon to 3pm at least when the heat is at it's worst.

| Lucy is about 4 months old (17 weeks) and that's what she had those tiny mats close to her skin and I tried to brush them out but she wouldn't let me get her legs and stuff like that. I was just so upset that she lost her black puppy coat but I know she must feel a lot better and she's not biting at her skin anymore. We got her a little t-shirt to wear around the house since we keep it pretty cool, and I didn't think about sunscreen, what kind should I use? we only take her outside to use the potty but I don't want her to burn or anything.

| You know, I really don't understand why a professional groomer would need to shave a dog, especially a Yorkie since their hair is more like "hair", just because of some mats. I know when Tatum was a puppy, I was using a brush on her after baths for a couple months until I realized that the brush was not getting down to her skin. Once I realized that, I used a good conditioner and combed her out. Yes, there were mats and tangles BUT the conditioner worked wonders. You would think a groomer would have products that they can use when a dog is tangled or matted. Now when I give Tatum a bath, I use a spray conditioner and just kinda pick at any tangles or mats and they come right out. I'm sorry your pup had to be shaved. I'm sure it will grow out quickly. Better luck next time!

| If you only take her out to potty, keeping her little t-shirt on should be fine. Other than that SPF 15 is strong enough. My first yorkie did not have a silk coat and it was hard to work with so I kept her in a clip that was med. length and the grooming was not so hard for her. She was my favorite dog ever......Crystal better not have heard that because it is almost a tie. lol

| Well the groomer said she could get the mats out but she wanted Lucy's first grooming experience to be a good one, and I agreed since Max is a wonderful well behaved dog but when it comes to grooming he freaks out and won't let them get near his face so he never gets a really good groom and I didn't want Lucy to end up like him. They said she might have more of a cottony coat they weren't positive but said it was probably best to start all over. This time I'm just going to make sure I brush her out everyday and also bath her once a week to ensure that this won't ever happen again.

| Don't worry about it too much. The hair will be back before you know it. I keep Pepper in a short cut most of the time, he's such a boy, always will get dirty somewhere and it seems his hair is really Short for a week or two at a time. Here's a picture of him after the last cut (the shortest ever, a little tooooo short) - but now he has a nice puppy cut and I already had to shave his ears as his heir seems to grow like crazy!! Here he is after the trim

| Awww At least Lucy got to keep the fur on her face. My Eury had to get completely shaved due to skin irritations that are gone now... YAY! She looked like a Chihuahua for a while but now looks more like a Terrier. It's only been a couple of weeks for her and it's definitely growing fast and her cottony fur feels SOOO incredibly soft right now, not to mention grooming is a breeze. Here are pictures before and after she got shaved.

| Chelle~what a little doll! Sallen~ Just be glad that the baby didn't have a bad first time at the groomers with a lot of pulling and combing painfull knots out. I am sure the result is cuteness in any way/shape/form!

Yes I know that is why I told the Groomer to just shave her so she wouldn't be afraid of the Groomers. The Groomer has been grooming my mom's dogs Max and Mazie forever and she told me that if she tried to get the mats out she would end up like Max who is impossible to groom. While Mazie will let them do whatever they want to her as long as they pet her. So at least i know Lucy will enjoy getting groomed and won't be scared
