My Lil Man! Donating Member | MicroChip I was wondering who uses what MicroChips and/or which ones are suppose to be the best. For the most part my baby is always with me but just to have that extra added security of a microchip in case something was to ever happen...I feel is a very important investment. |

| Mine has Avid, but I hear there are different readers at different vets, so I don't know how in the world that would work. It was in him when I bought him. |

| There is a European avid chip that is more universal and can be read by more scanners. But most vets have both. Also, i know that the microchipping companies provide scanners to shelters free of charge. That gives me some piece of mind. |

| The Euro chip is the type I am going to have implanted in Charlie. I understand you register the number with the animal shelter, etc. Eventually, the USA will catch up although I want to feel confident that the chip will be read in Washington and where ever I travel with Charlie. Since he has been to several vets, I would need to notify them also. Someone also suggested to have the microchip number engraved on their tags.

| Avid has a universal chip that can be read by most scanners. It costs the same, you just have to request it.
