| Why does he itch so much???!! I took Stomper to San Diego with me a few weeks ago- 8 hour drive from where I live and he did great in the car! Once we returned, he started itching like crazy. He was around my Aunt's yorkie the entire time. She mentioned that he did get fleas from time to time (she said he did not have them while we were there) However, Stomper does not appear to have fleas. I've looked all over him and can't find one. Plus, I would think we would find them on ourselves. My questions are the following: 1) How do you know if a dog has fleas? Would we see them??? 2) Why would he be scratching so much? 3) How can you tell if they have dry skin? 4) He doesn't seem to be in pain. Should I take him to the vet if this continues? Thanks for the advice.

| I think if he had fleas you would be able to see them, especially in the belly area. He may have mites? I hear mites can be common and very contagious, they make the yorkie really itchy and I don't think they are easy to see. If the itching goes on for more than a few days I would take him to the vet to have him checked for mites Good luck, and please post to tell us how he is doing.

| I would think that you would see the fleas too. Maybe it was just a little allergy to something?

| 1. You can see the fleas or see little black pepper type particles in his hair. 2. He can be allergic to flea bite. For example if you got bitten my an ant or a mosquito you can itches from the bites for week without the ant or mosquito having to be right there. 3. You will see flakes of dry skin. 4. In really bad cases he can scratch himself raw which you will have to take him to the vet. Or you can take him in for a cortisone shot just to relieve the itching. |

| If it just started the day you came back from your aunts i would guess he got bite or has a flea or 2 on him. If you use frontline the couple he may have picked up will be dead in a day and then you can tell if it is that or something else. good luck!! |

| klogan follow up Well...I took Stomper to the vet today. Guess what? He had fleas! I'm realy angry at the moment. I wish my Aunt would have been honest with me. I spent $135.00 today including the visit, Advantage for 6 months and bendryl. I know all animals get them eventually, but I'm not happy to know that this is because my Aunt's dog did have them and she did not tell me. I even feel worse that poor Stomper has been scratching and itching like crazy for the last 2 weeks! The vet said she only saw a few so it shouldn't be too bad to get rid of them. I hope so! I already put the Advantage on him. Thanks for all your suggestions and help. I'm really glad I brought him in to see the vet before these fleas got out of hand!
