| Puppy Mills in PA question I hope this doesn't offend anyone- I may be very wrong... I just followed a link to Last Chance for Animals to hear about their puppy mill walk later this year. The information said that Lancaster, PA is the "puppy mill capitol of the East Coast." I've heard that there are a lot of Amish people that run puppy mills. First of all- is this true? Second, if it is true, is there a correlation between the high number of Amish people in Lancaster County and the large number of puppy mills, or is this coincidental? |

| That is awful. I have heard that the Amish treat any animals horribly. I also think that it is a load of bull that they dont enforce the laws with the amish. |

| I have read that exact info about the Amish being horrible puppy millers... well, ALL pm'ers are horrible, but I have heard that same thing about PA and the Amish puppy mills! Just another reason I wouldn't buy from a broker... who knows if they are getting their puppies from these people??? |

| Aren't animals Gods' creatures? You would think that these "people" who follow The Lord would be a little more loving to His animals, shame on them ...Theresa & The Boys |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I agree - shame on them - they consider them to be equal to livestock and needing no comforts...and as a cash crop... like cauliflower or spinach - the Amish treat animals terribly and have some of the worst puppymills .... |

| Amish We had alot of Amish in So. Maryland where I lived..they have a very different idea about dogs. Dogs are considered "LIVESTOCK". They are raised in barns just like cows and goats. They do not treat their animals very well from wht I saw at the farmer market...I refused to buy anything from them. IMO. |

| It is absolutely horrible and true! I have not bought and will not buy any puppies from PA but I have heard just as many horror stories from Missouri and Texas! So it really is probably everywhere which is why we really have to be cautious buyers. My husband & I belong to an organization here in PA that tries to fight the Amish breeders and have sent letters to everyone who is involved but all I can say is it must take a huge amount of money to get anywhere. If I ever win the lottery I would definately take things into my own hands! I can't believe that it has to be or stay this way! |

| I've seen two news stories here within the last two weeks about puppy mills in PA. Unfortunately, even when they are exposed very little is done. A few nights ago NBC did an undercover story with hidden cameras about Amish puppy mills. There was one farm with 200 dogs in cages in a barn. They've been sentenced to a miserable life in prison basically. It was horrible to watch. When an inspector found a dead dog and was asked what would be done about it his reply was nothing...when you have 200 dogs like this it's to be expected. Those aren't his exact words but that's the gist of it. Fox news did a story about another one. If you'd like to watch it, here is the link. http://www.dmpuppylove.com/DJs-Critt...veKennels.html

| I'm really trying to find the positive in this and all I can say is that at least the issue of Amish PMs is making the major news now and its not just a myth or a rumor. I just pray that since the "pet industry" with people pampering their pets and dressing them, etc is becoming so mainstream that in the near future we can start getting issues on ballots and actually be able to have laws that govern these issues. I guess from one standpoint of having the 200 dogs in cages like on that news special... what can anyone do if they aren't breaking any laws??? We need to contact our state reps and congressmen and women and get these issues placed on local and state ballots and then lobby locally to get people out to vote these issues into law so that these people can be regulated! |
