8 month old Yorkie with Altzheimers?¿? I new that title would get your attention. My 8 month old Yorkie doesn't have Altzheimer's, but he does keeps forgetting things! When we first brought Riley home from the breeder at 8 weeks old, it took us 2 weeks to litter box train him. He hasn't had an accident since then, until now. At the end of April, my family and I took a trip to Florida for 6 days. My older brother Eddy who moved out of the house a couple of months ago stayed in the house with Riley while we were gone. Since we got back, he has been having accidents all over the place, and most of the time, he doesn't go in a corner to hide it or anything, he leaves it right out in the open for everyone to see. We are thinking maybe is mad at us that we left him for 6 days. But that was at the end of April. I always thought dogs didn't hold grudges. Maybe I was wrong. Does anyone have any idea why Riley is suddenly having accidents or how to stop him?

Anger is not an emotion that a Yorkie can hang on to. So, no, his change in behavior is not due to his being angry with you..Something during your time away has affected his behavior..I don't mean an intentional mean act, but something. Most behaviorists say start over as if the dog was never trained..could be something as simple as moving the box or not changing the litter as often as you do.. Sorry to hear about this problem-tell your brother he is not to blame..

Some dogs are very sensitive to change. When it occurs it upset their routine including potty training. He might just need a couple of days to get back on it.

Yorkieagility, it's been a couple of days. Actually, it's been about a month. LOL! Thanks for all the advice. I think we will try to re-potty train him as both of you suggested. Hopefully that will work! Thanks again!

I think you are right. If he hasn't gone back to his old routine by now, you have to start from the beginning and re-potty train him. Good luck.
