| Honest opinion NEEDED We are considering buying a girl puppy. The Breeder says her parents are only 6 lbs, but she is almost 3 lbs at 10 weeks old. She has AKC and champion grandparents, no health problems run in the family. We were almost sold on her based on this picture http://xfc.xanga.com/a82817ea6500610.../m71015080.jpg but then were sent this picture, she looks really big to me in this one for some reason (we want a bigger one, but not over 7 lbs) and we are concerned about her ears because we would like a dog whose ears stand up (moms ears stand up all the time, dads go down when he's nervous, otherwise they are up) http://x16.xanga.com/87d81b63395b610.../m71197130.jpg Ultimately personality counts first, but we want to be prepared before hand, its a 2 hour drive to get her if we decide to. We also like black coloring on the face, which the dad does have, but the mom does not. Here is a pic of the mom, is there a way to determine this? http://x04.xanga.com/9ab09b34d114810.../m71197140.jpg We have asked about health garentee, shots, blood lines, socialiation.... Is there anything else we should ask about? (ps not sure how to upload photos, so feel free if you know how) |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | If in doubt, don't do it. It's better to wait than be disappointed for 16 years. I have to say that second picture has me a little puzzled, the paws on the dog look huge, and I hear that's a good indicator of future size. It may be just the picture though. Nearly every breeder I've read about says that their dogs will be less than 7 pounds. Champion grandparents mean nothing. Sometimes backyard breeders buy offspring from champs and think this means that they should breed them. Sometimes the dogs are closely related and the recessive gene that didn't show up in parents shows up in puppies. You've asked a lot of good questions, I would also want to know about coat if it's cottony or true silk coat. The ears not standing is another concern although it can be extremely cute, it's not standard. Does this breeder belong to Yorkshire Club of America? I would look for that, and also I've read that CO has a lot of puppymills, so beware. Here's a link to Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. http://www.ytca.org/breeder3.html#CO. Just talking to a good breeder can really answer so many questions. Nancy I just want to add that 3 pounds at 10 weeks indicates she will be well over 7 pounds. | There isnt a gaurantee on how much she will weigh. When I got Gracie as a pup the breeder let me see the mom and dad and they were 6 pounds and 4 pounds. She said she couldnt gaurantee the weight of my puppy but guessed somewhere between 5-6 pounds. Gracie is 2 years old and she weighs 7.5 pounds. As far as the ears standing you can tape them to help with it but some just never stand. They will also go up and down through the teething process. We taped Gracie's ears and they never stood but both of her parents had standing ears. The coloring changes all through a yorkies life....at least that is with my Gracie. She went from the deep brown and black to lighter tan and black then to light tan and a deep shade of silver....I dont know if anyone could gaurantee the coloring of your baby either. If you like her temparment and she seems like the puppy for you I would say go for it. U really cant tell much of anything from a picture....I have seen some of the cutest yorkie pups but usually would pick the once with the best temperment for my taste. GOOD LUCK! All you can do is make the trip and see if you enjoy the puppy! Otherwise look elsewhere!

| When in doubt -- DON'T. If there is any question in your mind about whether or not you will be happy with this puppy, then continue looking. The puppy of your dreams is out there somewhere -- it just may take some time to find her. I spent 6 months and over 1,000 miles and countless hours in my car coming home empty handed, looked at more puppies that I ever imagined even existed and..... finally I found my Chizziewink! |

| I can see by the second picture that the puppy will not have ears that stand up. I guess it all depends on what you want really. The puppy may have the sweetest disposition in the world. Try and get your puppy from someone who shows them, and that you can see the pups in person. Also that they do a liver shunt test before you buy the puppy. |
