| My Dilema...please help!! Ok..I put down a deposit on a Morkie puppy as some of you might know. Well today I picked up the local Pennysaver which is a weekly paper that only has classifieds in it. I was reading it and came across an ad for a 4 year old yorkie female. I thought, well this is last Fridays paper she is probably sold, as she is only $500. Well I called...big mistake...she isnt sold. She is CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) reg. She will be 4 on November 1st..Darla was born March 1st Reece was born July 1st...weird enough.. She is selling her due to the fact that she is just recently divorced and had to move into an apartment and get herself two jobs. She just dosent have the time or room for her like she deserves. She is great with dogs, kids and is housebroken and is crate trained. Her name is Holly since she bought her close to Christmas. She is 7 pounds. Now..my dilema. I want to go see Holly, bring Darla and Reece to meet her...but if I did decide to bring her home I couldnt get the puppy. On the other hand...if I got the puppy I would have to do the whole puppy thing..training etc...so many pros and cons I could weigh all night. Should I go see her? Just let it be? What are some problems an older dog could have adjusting to a new home? When the lady was with her husband he had two dogs of his own and she loved to play and wrestle with them and her kids are my kids ages...oh my what did I do to myself lol.. Any suggestions? Dawn |

| Probably Holly needs you more. I am sure someone else will be willing to take puppy as that is usually the case. People tend to go for puppy. I have had 2 dogs that came to me when they are older. The first is our Spitz (who was actually a stray dog that we lured him in to our house and kept him although it took us more than a month to gain his trust) who was about 6 years old and the other was about 6-8 years old Shih-Tzu. I really did not have a lot of problems with them. My Spitz was fully housetrained and Sugar, Shih-Tzu only took 3 weeks to train. I never had a puppy until now (Siu Pao the Yorkie). It is really up to you. I myself find it easier to have a grown up dog because you only have to fine tune their behaviour whereas a puppy, you have to fine tune them for at least a year. My next dog will definitely be a senior dog or an older adult from the shelter.

| I think go see Holly and your heart will tell you if she is right for you. I would have to at least check her out and give it a chance. It will be harder for her to find a forever home than a little puppy.

| If it were me, I'd go see Holly. There are alot of plusses to getting a mature dog...the potty training being one. You will miss out on the puppy phase, where you can train the dog to do as you'd like, but an older dog can adjust to your way of doing things quite easily. I'd say go see her. You never know...it might be a match made in heaven! Good luck with your decision. Go with your gut instinct. |

| Can you take Darla and Reece and have someone stay in the car with them until you know if Holly is right for you first? If you love her, then I would try your dogs at meeting her. They may not like each other immediately and it may take a while for them to adjust. Bringing any other animal in the picture whether puppy or dog may take some adjusting for Reece and Darla. If you are lucky they will get along from the beginning, but not likely if Reece and Darla are older. Then again they may all bond right away.
