swimming Where do you all take your yorkies to go swimming? Do they enjoy it?? Is there anything I need to know for a first attempt swimmer other than make sure he's wearing a life jacket?

| We haven't taken ours swimming, per se, but they do have a little wading pool in our backyard that they like to hop in and out of when it's hot outside. We don't have enough water in there for them to actually swim in, though. I know I've seen pictures of other yorkies swimming in lakes and pools on here. You might try searching the forum for some threads about it.

Alex fell in our pool when he was 4 months old and it really scared him. He will float on a raft if we are holding on to it but he has no apparent interest in going swimming.

My Snickers loves swimming in our pool. When he was about 4 months old, I would take him in on short swims to help him gain strenth back in the leg he broke & had surgery on. I will admitt, he did not love it then. BUT, last week I threw his new favorite toy in & he jumped in after it. He learned that he can touch the bottom on the first step of the pool & he is now in & out as long as I let him. He will even get in the pool & start swimming toward me if I go off the diving board. I posted pics the other day under "my yorkie". We have a lot of fun, but it is a grooming nightmare!

Layla has been to the beach about 4 times this summer.. it was insanely hot out so i had to put her in the lake to cool off. she hated it at first... as i would lower her to the water she would put her paws above her head... lol.. too funny.. but by the 4 time at the beach she was going into the waves (those were what scared her) and becoming more daring! i woudlnt' say she loves it.. but she is getting used to it she is not so crazy about pools.

I once had this "teapot" sized (10 lb) Yorkie who thought he was a Lab, he just loved the water. When I took him to a friends bay house to visit I really had to watch Chip because he would dive right off the fishing pier into the water. He loved the beach and he loved his baby pool. I sure miss that dog.
