| Night potty out of control... I'm starting to observe a new tendency in my puppy... He goes potty like crazy during early wee hours! He became very good with pee pads and I only put him in the xpen during the night or when everybody's out the house. I feed him fresh food 4 times a day, and he always has some 'leftovers' in his bowl in case he gets hungry. I put 2 pee pads in his xpen each night, usually check on them around 1-2 AM and they're still clean. Or maybe there's 1 poop or so. Then around 7-8 AM I find at least 3-4 poops and quite a few peepees. His stools are normal, no diarrhea.... but the pads are soiled nevertheless. Anyone else having that issue? I try to get him really tired during the day, play with him, have him run etc most of the day hoping it'll have him tired enough and he doesn't protest when it's time to sleep. He doesn't whine at night anymore, only when he wakes up, usually by 7 and wants out. I tried crate at the beginning so I can let him out to potty but then he went in it and quietly back to sleep

| Why are the frequent bathroom trips in the early morning an issue? My Gracie has me up every 3 hours during the night to go potty. Have you tried taking away the food and water earlier in the evening? As far as the crate training goes, was the crate small enough that he could only stand up, turn around and lie down?

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i take morgan's food and water away at 8 o'clock so she doesn't need to pee a billion times in the night. she hold it till 6/7 in the morning. if she whines at night i tell her not now, but if she continues a lot then i know she really has to go. when i first got morgan i only gave her a fourth of the crate. now she has the whole thing becuase she doesn't mess in it. i don't give her the option of a pee pad because i don't want her going in the house.

My furkids Donating Member | I have only had Lillie for a week now. she is 9 weeks old..(I also have a 2 1/2yr old girl as well) I would leave Lillie's food down all the time. she is blocked off during the day in the kitchen with pee pad(litter box) food and water. I now take her food and water away around 9 at night. She was getting me up every 2 hrs for the first 3 nights..everytime she got up she would either pee or poop. She STILL isn't sleeping all night!! I am exhausted!! How long did it take for your little guy to stop the whining? I would let her whine till she fell asleep but my husband has to get up for work in the morning.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | morgan never whines in her crate unless she has to pee or poop really really bad. i put her in there at night on the first night i had her and told her to go to sleep. i'm so happy i don't have a problem with her. i was dreading the crate training part but luckily my pup was used to being confined at night because that's what the breeder did with them. i really have no advise other then to put her in a room far from your bedroom with all the doors closed in between and let her whine her heart out. she'll give up eventually when she realizes you aren't coming to let her out again

| I also got a bigger crate with a divider and separated really small place for J.J. But he only whined the few couple nights when needed to go potty. The crate was right next to my bed too... but then I'd wake up in the middle of the night and realize he was quiet and went in it. So I got an xpen and boy was he miserable at the beginning! (I let him run freely around before... ). It took like 2-3 nights when he realized that's the new order. Now he wakes up when hubby leaves to work around 5.30 and whines a few times. Then he starts really whining by 7. That's the usual time when I get up. The xpen really helped though. And during the day I let him roam, I just make sure there's a pad in each room and 9 times out of 10 that's where he potties. He's only 11 weeks today and hasn't got all shots yet. That's why I'm sticking to the pads...
