I also got a bigger crate with a divider and separated really small place for J.J. But he only whined the few couple nights when needed to go potty. The crate was right next to my bed too... but then I'd wake up in the middle of the night and realize he was quiet and went in it. So I got an xpen and boy was he miserable at the beginning! (I let him run freely around before... ). It took like 2-3 nights when he realized that's the new order. Now he wakes up when hubby leaves to work around 5.30 and whines a few times. Then he starts really whining by 7. That's the usual time when I get up. The xpen really helped though. And during the day I let him roam, I just make sure there's a pad in each room and 9 times out of 10 that's where he potties. He's only 11 weeks today and hasn't got all shots yet. That's why I'm sticking to the pads...
