Grooming.....? Hey ya'll... I don't own a yorkie yet, but I was just wondering (for those who gets their pups professionally groomed) how much does grooming normally cost? I am just curious.... Cause when I FINALLY get my yorkie, I wanna keep her hair cut short...so I was just wondering how much it normally costs for that.... Thanks! Melanie

| I just had Sydnee groomed but they gave her a flea dip also. It cost me 28.00 dollars. Which I didn't think was bad at all since I spend that much on just shirt or pjs or something for her. Hope that helps. I am in Florida so I don't know what you area is like. Be sure to let us see photos of your baby as soon as you get your furbaby.

I took Sebastian to Petsmart and it cost $14.99 for the puppy package. I think they did an awesome job for his 1st grooming

I have only had Hefner groomed once so far and he was only 6 months old but it was $20 from a mobile groomer that comes out to my house and does my westie and my poodle and my persian cat too.

I live in NYC, so it costs me about $40, at the very least. That includes: shampoo, condition, drying, combing, haircut, nails, ears, glands. Honestly, I have had Archie groomed twice---once when he was about 6 months old, and yesterday (he's going to be 1 next week!!). I think that in the future, I would really just pay for the nails, ears and glands which shouldn't be more that $20. Other than that, I just throw Archie into the tub and give him a bath a couple times a month. As for haircuts, I just want the hair out of his eyes. I can do it myself, but since it's his birthday, I wanted it to be done professionally.

Around here it's around $20. Baxter is going today. He'll be around $28. I am taking him to a new groomer today. This includes shampoo and conditioner, fluff dry and comb, cut with hand scissor finish, trim nails and hair between foot pads, ear cleaning and gland expression (and I am adding an additional service-teeth brushing and breath freshener). Some are less expensive and don't do some of the services that she does.

I used to take my babies to this one place and I would do a day at the spa and it would cost about 37 dollars each. Just grooming cost around 31 dollars, so I thought I would spend the extra $ for the spa treatment...and its all day. Now I take them to my vet, they have a grooming service in the same building. It was just more convenient and they charge $31. My kids...all 3 of them are there right now. I can't wait to see them!

grooming----ringworm! i live in Virginia and i took my yorkie to petco when he was 5 months old for grooming. that same day he kept scratching....but i figured...its normal. he kept scratching and scratching throughout the entire week and finally i was thinking---something is wrong. i discovered he had ringworm!!! i was so upset w/ PETCO. turns out that someone else's dog had ringworm right before they bathed my pup. i was so MAD. i'm NEVER going back there again! obviously the tools they used were NOT sanitary.

Wow, that's not bad at all! I figured it would a lot more... considering all the stuff they do to the dog. We have a PetSmart over here in Yuma, Arizona... which is probably where I would end up taking her. I was up there the other day to get my kitty some food and this little old lady came walking out of the grooming center with her yorkie... and she was soooooo cute!!!! I just had to go over to her and pet her... she had just gotten groomed and it looked as if they did a really good job... so we'll see!! I will make sure I post pics!!!!!! Like I said in another post, I don't even have my yorkie yet, but I am already really addicted to this site!! LOL!! I love it!!! You guys get me so excited about gettin my yorkie when I read all the little cute stories and stuff you guys post!!! I'll keep ya'll updated... definantly!! Thanks for the info everyone!! Melanie

| Confused What do you mean when you've had the "glands" done when you have your baby groomed? I've never heard of that...but I'm still a newbie. Quote:

sometimes dogs need their anal glands exspressed......... this means "to drain them"..... if there is a build up then it can cause infection
