| Has anyone tried bows with clips instead of bands? So far I've just used the little butterfly clips on Gypsy's hair because it wasn't really long enough for a bow. But she looked so cute today when the groomer put a bow in her hair that I thought I would get busy and order some for her. At least, until I just tried to take out the bow, eeek, I wouldn't want to do that every day. I was wondering if any of you had tried the ones with clips on them ( Lawdog Bows has some you can order with french clips). Anyone? The real bows look so much nicer than just little clips. I'd really like to find something I can manage.

| I have some cute clips ( I think you call them barettes?) with bows on them. I got them from Claires. They work really well and don't tangle. Plus they look cute. I also got some cute plastic ones in the baby section of wal-mart. Ella's hair is really fine and bands tangle a lot. Clips are easy when it is short too. |

| I cant use the ones with the bands, I cant get them straight. I use the kind with clips etc. A small pet store around here has them or at wal-mart back in the baby section you can find them. I love them. I just put a band first to tie the pony back then clip a bow around it. It works great! At wal-mart they are really cheep. you get two white, two pink, two blue, two yellow and 2 lavender for like $3.99 or so. They are in a pack. Last edited by DENISE517; 04-26-2006 at 05:26 AM. |

| Ive tried the ones that just clip in before but my girls just shake their heads until they fall out! I prefer to put a bow in with a rubberband attached!

| My Gypsy will let me put a band in her hair and leaves it pretty good. I got some barrettes in the baby section of Walmart and she just shakes them out. I can't find them right now hubby said he took the cardboard strip they were on away from her, I think she has hid them.

| I have bows that are on barettes. I like them but the only way I have gotten them to stay on is to put the topknot in an elastic band 1st. I do this when I put regular bows on too so it isnt a big deal to me.

| Kathy.... The reason it was so darn hard to get out... was because groomers use bows that have "rubber" bands. Rubber eats hair! Seriously!! It will break, tear out, and destroy a nice head of hair, leaving fringe and flyaways to hang down in poor baby's eyes! I use Nylon Bands... As do Many other Dog people! They are the no pull kind! you can find them in the human hair section of most drus and super stores... they come in many sizes... but you want the smallest, they look like ortho bands! lol They are TINY! but they stretch! Or if your dogs hair is really thick, you can do the next size up... whichever you choose... wrap it good and tight... and it will hold all day! Yes... you could leave it for a week... but you NEVER WOULD! you should take it out every night! If you don't you asking for a big matt on the head and tons of breakage, and bad skin on the scalp... they need that hair down at night... Just like you would not want a tight pony for a week... they dont! If you look at the goody brand clips in the human section... they have these clips that are super tiny... they are simple jaw type with teeth... they come in a pack with clear, brown, and black... Both of my girls can go all day with these in their hair!! and they even stay in while they fight!! The key is to pin the tail of hair down and back on the head and not clip it in the air! If I clip it in the air... it will slide right off of the pony tail! but if I take the pony and lay it back on the head and clip it down and catch some of the side hair... it will stay all day!! I can take a pic if anyone is really interested... I tend to ramble on about the strangest things!!! lol Any way... I hope I have helped some...

| Thank you all so much for your replies. Kathryn are those bands the one they call 'ouchless', I think maybe they're latex? And even if I use those the fancy little bows that you order like from Lawdog Bows come with ordinary bands don't they? Maybe I should put an 'ouchless' band in and then a bow with a barrette. What do you think?

| Kathryn the bands you use are they different colors? I think I bought some of those but I had a hard time keeping them in Abigail's hair. I was just wondering if maybe they were the same ones. I use the bands from the pet supply places and they break the girls hair just like you said.

| Nylon bands are the best. They really strech and even though they are really tiny they are easy to work with. They are also a lot thicker than the latex bands.

| I use barrettes and clips and love them. I also use bands alot to make a little ponytail first. I recommend grooming bands for this. I HATE the "ouchless" bands that you can buy in the people section of a store. I find that they have hardly any elasticity in them and so I felt like I was hurting chloe when I tried to use them. So IMO they did more damage than anything I have ever used.
