Donating YT 2000 Club Member | My Havenese is a trained hearing service dog. He is also a certified Therapy Dog. Itzi (4# Biewer) started his certification hours as a therapy dog. We have also begun the training for him to also be a Hearing Dog for me. I'll be happy to answer specific questions. |

| My Sherman is not a "service" dog, but his is a therapy dog. Both he and my golden ret. visit nursing homes to give pet therapy to the patients. They really make a positive impact in those patients' lives! I highly recommend sharing the joy of your furbaby! The dogs love it too! |

| Moose is an official service dog in training (SDIT). She is training to be a PSD. Phycological Service Dog. And probably at some point my hearing dog. So she's going to be double duty trained Michelle

| Well, Gracie is not a service dog but she is getting ready to start her Canine Good Citizen class that the AKC sponsors so she will be able to visit at nursing homes.

We used to have a member on here who had a yorkie service dog but I dont remember what it was for. I know a lady that has a yorkie she takes everywhere because it is her service dog and it can detect and warn her if she is about to have a seizure.

| Yorkie's can be a Service Dog There are 3 basic types of SD's (service dog's), Emotional (ESD), Psychiatric (PSD), and Mobility Service Dog (SD), according to several different SD groups. The emotional and psychiatric are very close to the same thing (mental) and can even overlap to mobility (physical). Federal Law, is the The Americans with Disabilities Act, 1990, (ADA), defines service animal as: "any animal individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability."The ADA defines a disability as: "a mental or physical condition which substantially limits a major life activity such as caring for one's self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning and working."To be considered a service dog, the dog must be trained to perform tasks directly related to the person's disability. What this means is that there is only ONE Service Animal group, not three. Note: There are more self-trained SD's in the US, than those trained in a special school. Any questions, I would be glad to answer either here or in private email. My 'hobby' is matching disabled people with service animals. Service Animals http://sa.morgel.net |

| Yorkies can be service dogs Quote:
I know this because I have a 4 year old Yorkie who has been trained and certified as a Psychiatric Service Dog. I have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Dissorder) as the result of a rape in my own home by a complete stranger, and have had serious side effects ranging from feeling unsafe to complete disassociation(a trance like state in which I end up reliving the event). I originally got KC as a pet, however quickly realized that he knew when I was being triggered way before I realized it. We followed through with training and he was certified last September. | |
