Default Yorkie Traits

After reading this forum for several months now and comparing my baby to all of your babies, it's amazing the same traits that each of our "kids" have in common. They all must be yorkie traits only or do you think all Poms, or all Shih Tzu's, or all Chi's are the same? For example, I've read that some of your babies do the following things that my baby does. Can you guys think of other things that you've read on here and you think to yourself, my baby does that exact same thing.

1) Tossing dry kibble with their mouth, then darting at it, then scoot backwards, then dart again, then back, then finally put it in their mouths and eat it.
2) Running really fast throughout the house
3) Little climbers and escape artists
4) Love to shread newspaper, paper towels, and kleenex.

Yup! Bailey does these 2 as well. He chews on ANY paper he can get his little mouth on. Yesterday, we were out on a walk and I look down and he had a cigarette butt sticking out of his mouth

Yup, Tia does all of the above. She also refuses to eat on tile floor. She carries her food to the carpet, or pushes the bowl with her nose. I've never had a dog who did THAT!

Both of my yorkies do all those things and they are total trash monsters. Hefner can easily empty an entire bathroom garbage can, no problem. I can compare breeds a little because I have a westie and a poodle also who have interesting traits of their own.

Hefner likes toys where as my standard poodle doesn't. Hefner will "kiss" up a storm but my poodle will not kiss at all. My poodle is a finicky eater and he gags when he gets anything in his mouth so this may be why he doesn't like to play with toys and he doesn't kiss.

Both my yorkies love to play fetch and will do it until they drop!

If I put Beau's food on a saucer or bowl, he won't eat it, if I drop it piece by piece onto the tile floor, he will scamper after every piece. This is how he eats his dinner and breakfast, by me standing there dropping one piece at time onto the floor. This must be a fun game for him.

That is sooo funny...my Chai is the same way. She prefers the food on the floor to in a bowl!! I never noticed that trait with Hefner.

Bentley does those things too! He thinks if it falls on the floor the it must be the "good stuff" and he scarfs it up! Bitsy, being the little princess that she is, is getting to where she wants to be hand fed, even the wet food It's a mess. She won't eat out of a dish unless she is starving. My hubby started that one. I laugh cause now she is eating six to eight times a day because she is nursing pups!

LOVES to go for a ride and if I get my keys, jacket, purse etc., he starts looking at me with the sweetest puppie dog eyes that say "PLEASSSE take me"!!! He goes absolutely NUTS if you say ride and he get to go and he barks and just gets beside himself with happiness! Loves to stick his head out the window too! It's so funny We take ours to Wilmington from Charlotte to visit with family and they could not be better riding companions. We took Bentley everywhere we were allowed to (and sometimes not allowed) ever since puppiehood. He pouts when he doesn't get to go

How old is your baby. Beau doesn't mind riding in the car, but I don't think he's that thrilled with it, it must be his age, but I keep trying. He rides in his car seat where he can see out but he spends most his time trying to climb out of the car seat instead of enjoying it.

He's a little over 4 months.

Default Both are the same way!

Both male and female do the same things listed. My male kisses me every time I sneeze or cough, he will rush to me no matter where he is at, no matter what he is doing. I wear my hair in 2 braids some times like an Indian girl and both of them chew the tips of my hair, like a tug of war with one on each side. She will only eat off the floor
and he will only eat out of my hand. As far as the car rides they both fight over the middle storage compartment which they use as a perch. My husband covered it with one of their custom fur blankets so they wouldn't scratch the leather on the console. In the back of the car he folded the seats down and covered it with the other matching fur blanket it's a hatch-back so they have the whole car to themselves. And in the morning my Artie wakes us up exactly @ 7 am. by kissing us. He's teaching Abigail how to do it too!

Yorkielover-Bentley is 14 months. I started him riding with me everywhere when he was three months. I bought the car seat thing which I think is a good idea!!! But Bentley is miserable in it. He's excited and hyper when we first get in but after about 5 minutes he calms down. He used to always sit on my lap while I drove but now he'll sit beside me or find a comfy spot in the back on a blankie. Bitsy is almost 4 now and she is as calm as a cucumber. Your baby will get used to it. Maybe you should try it with him riding in your lap since he is so little. Hope I don't get blasted for saying you should use a carseat I think it's great and it's certainly safer than without one. I should have started Bentley out with the carseat.

Bentley runs to us too if we cough or sneeze, no matter what, and gives us kisses. It's like he's checking to see if we are ok! I've never seen any other dog do like that before! Yorkies have the sweetest temperment!

I love Yorkies! My experience with 2 of them is that they both naturally fetch and like to dig for things. Both seem to enjoy the anticipation of when I am going to toss the toy more than retrieving the toy. I hold it in the air and move it around slowly and they follow with their head and the hair on their body seems to fluff up and they are highly alert. If I fake a toss, they react, but make sure I have actually thrown the object of their desire before they chase after it. As they stand on alert, both would lift one front paw of the ground as if they think this will make them faster, LOL. If I don't throw soon, they will pat the ground with one or both front paws as if to tell me that they are ready to fetch. Another trait I saw in both is to hide a squeaky toy in a blanket and sqeak it. This seems to make them incredibly determined to dig the toy out of the blanket or hidden place. They will dig and dig and dig to exhaustion! They both never seemed to tire of these 2 games. If anyone has any other ideas for games for earth dogs, I would love to hear about them. I think these are traits as these Yorkies are different ages and never met one another. I babysat one and the other is mine I bought because I loved the little guy I babysat. I noticed right away with my baby that he had the same traits as the other Yorkie, with no coaching on my part, so I think these are traits common to their ratter history. Thoughts?

Oh. Another couple traits I noticed was the taking food from the bowl and backing away from the towel the bowls were on, to eat off the floor. Somehow that made it taste better I guess, LOL. It seems they wear themselves out just eating.....another was scavaging the floor for anything and putting it in their mouth. Another was prancing around with a toy in their mouth daring you to try to take it. They want to play tug o war, but seemed to enjoy teasing everyone by finally deciding who they would allow to play tug o war with them!

Pita does all of those things listed except she doesn't really race around in the house. She does outside tho.

She also chases cats and goats! She just got big enuf so that the other animals take her serious and run when she's after them, it's all play, nobody's really worried, some of the cats just bat her when she walks by just to let her know who's really in charge!!

When the alarm goes off in the morning, Pita jumps up and starts licking my face to wake me up!

Default Being nosy

My last yorkie and now my new yorkie were/are very nosy. If I bring a bag into the house and set it on the floor they have to get their whole body in it to see what's in it for them.
Does anyone's yorkie stand on the dishwasher door when loading or unloading it? My last yorkie was big (16 pounds) and would only stand by the door and try to get a lick of any type of food droppings but my Lucy who is around 3.5 pounds actually jumps on the door and stands on it licking it; it's funny.
