| Bugaboosmom or anyone who knows...Cleft Palate? I was wondering what a cleft palate with a dog consists of? I just saw your terad saying that your puppy was drinking onhis own now and was curious about it. - I'm 24 yrs. old and only about 6 or 7 yrs. ago did I find out that I have a half cleft palate. My dentist at the time noticed and and was amazed b/c I didn't have any deformities. I've never done any research on it to really see what it is all about when it comes to humans having this but all he said was normally deformities come with a cleft palate. - So is what I was wondering is, what does it do to a pup. With me the only way you know I have it is if you stick your finger into the roof of my mouth. On the lft side it is like a normal palate and then it takes a drastic up curve on the right side. I can't even touch my tounge to the roof of my mouth on the right side. I always though it was normal until the dentist told me. - So is this the same situation with dogs??? Thanks...Crystal

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Deformities in cleft palates include no palate in the roof of your mouth and a hair lip. Have you ever read anything about Operation Smile? It's an organization that performs reconstructive surgeries on children over seas. Those children suffer from cleft palates. From what I read, dogs can indeed have the same deformities. HTH.

| I'm sorry I was at work. The cleft palate that Bugaboo has does not include the hair lip, Looking at him you would think he's normal. On the roof of his mouth he has an opening. Starts from the front and extends back to the soft palate. It is so weird that you are mentioning this right now. This past sunday a couple come over to meet and talk to me about yorkie pups, The man had a cleft palate with a hair lip. He said he had surgery for it. If you don't find enough info on this please PM me and maybe I could put you in contact with them. Sorry Again for the Delayed Reply.

| When I was a kid, we had a pup with cleft palate once, it made a hole from his mouth to his nose and when he tried to drink the milk came out his nose. He didn't make it.
