| Grooming class??? Hi all, could you give me some advice? I'm living in Asia at the moment and there is such a high demand for dog groomers here that I'm thinking of taking a class and maybe opening up shop here? The classes are long and expensive but I already have 3 Yorkies and spend a fortune on grooming them every month anyway. I was wondering if any of you out there who knows if I need a certificate or diploma to open up shop in Canada or the US? and is it worth it taking the classes? There are 4 levels and it takes about 1.5 years. The cost is about $8,000-9,000 USD. Any advice would be appreciated.

| Boy - that is expensive!!!!! I think that a lot of people who groom have had no other training than "learning on the job." I some people here are groomers. I wish those of you who are would let us know if you have had any special training or did you learn on the job? Also, if you did go to school - how long was your program - what did it cost - etc. Thanks - Carol Jean |

| i think that's more of a regional question. there's no "national average". and it depends on what's included as well. some groomers will include everything. some will include the basics of a bath, dry, and trim but nickel and dime you on everything else. the going rate where i am is about $40 for a yorkie. i'm curious to know the frequency in which everyone takes their yorkie in for a grooming. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | $40 for a shampoo and cut at Petco here. Also, I'm not sure how highly regarded Petco is, but they offer a groomer training program. Here's their online ad: PETCO offers a unique opportunity for exceptional individuals interested in pursuing a career in the pet grooming industry. As part of the PETCO grooming training program, you will gain the skills and techniques necessary to become a Professional Pet Groomer. No previous grooming experience is needed. We'll pay you while you train!

| Wow, $40 is quite a bit of money for grooming, especially if you have more than one furbaby...... How often do you take them in???

| I wish I could take grooming classes too!! Is there an Internet course? I have to do it myself here, so It'd be nice to know WHAT EXACTLY I need to do, and how often I need to do it. |

| I don't have any grooming class advise! But I wish you good luck in whatever you decide.
