| Anyone use the bell at the door for potty training? Max goes to the door to go out but since the door is behind me and my magical eyes in the back of my head are no longer there now that my kids moved out I thought about trying it to get him to ring the bell...but don't they see it as a play toy hanging there? Now that his new play yard is completed in the back yard he just goes down the stairs and he has his new soft sod to roll around in...so it's in out in out all day! that boy loves to pull up dirt and sod...that's a boy for you! |

| My son taught his Rottweiler to use a doorbell......eventually it turned into a big game..........son finally got rid of it. He is the only one that I know that ever had one.

| I've taught both my yorkies to ring the bell to go outside for potty. They only ring it if they have to either pee or poop. I think it's important to, initially, either leash them outside or keep them in a small area outside so that they can't run and play, they will soon learn that ringing the bell is only for potty. That's what I did. And then gradually I gave them more space and be able to roam the backyard a bit. I think by me doing that right from the start, the association with the bell and it being only for potty is really strong. It has never turned into a game or a bell to ring just to go play outside. But I worked really hard on this and I didn't have any set backs with training them that behaviour. It's a great thing to teach them. It's so much better than listening to whining or barking, or having to catch them pacing or maybe them waiting quietly at the door, etc. I don't see any reason why Max can't learn how the bell works and that its just for potty. I say go for it and train him to ring the bell. |

| My friend does this with her havenese. It's a really good/cute idea. He doesn't really play with the bell. Her only rings it when he has to go outside. That may depend on the dog though. |

| We taught our puppy to use the bells when he needs to go out and it has worked great.

| We want to do this! We ordered a bell, but have no where to hang it. My husband plans to make a little stand out of wood, but does anyone have a pic of something simpler?

| Abby was scared of the big bell hanging from the doorknob. (she is scared of just about anything) So I trained her by playing with two larger christmas bells on a string- when she consistently rang them on command (treat- treat -treat!), I thumb tacked them to the baseboard near the garage door. Then we trained again by opening the door when she rang them. It was step by step and took about ten days of 10 minute practice twice a day. It was actually a lot of fun! 5 years later she will still give them a kick when she needs to go off schedule. |

| Can you hang it on a door knob? My friend has hers hanging on the sliding door's doorknob. That's the door she lets him out. |

| Probably not with the type of bell I got, but I'm sure it would be easier to buy one that I can hang instead of making a stand for this one. Thanks! That's what I should have done from the beginning.

| Tikka is bell trained. We use the Tell Bell that sits on the floor like a window call bell instead of the hanging bells that scratch up your door and annoyingly ring every time someone exits or enters. She learned the bell in one 20 minute session when she was 5 months old. I find it great for travel so she can confidently tell me when she has to potty. No accidents.

| There's a bell on the door, but she doesn't use it. I have to remind myself when she has to go and then we go out.
