| Miss Lily had to go ER Vet last night My Lily came to about 1:00 am excessively panting. I held her trying to see if I could get it under control but noticed very quickly something was really wrong. So off to the ER vet we go. When I get there they immediately take her back. Then came to ask me a lot of questions. They were treating her for toxicity. I had to leave her with them. I couldn't imagine what she would have got into. I am careful not to leave things around that would harm them. When I came home from the vet I noticed a chewed up package on my rug. I picked it up and it was a tea bag package. I had no clue that a tea bag was so dangerous to our babies. Thought I needed to share. Miss Lily is ok thank God!

| Rhonda, I am relieved for you that little Lily is okay! I can imagine how frightened you were. Good job getting her to the ER vet right away. What kind of tea was it? Could it have been a caffeine overdose? I know that caffeine can be toxic to dogs, give them heart arrhythmias, rapid breathing. Is your sweet girl home with you now? Sending her gentle hugs, and you too!

| So glad Lily is ok! I wonder too if it was caffeine that caused the rapid panting. How scary that must've been!

| Yes it is the caffeine that is the issue. I never dreamed that a tea bag could cause such an issue. Caffeine Poisoning in Dogs and Cats - Symptoms and Treatment

I was scared to death I was going to lose her. Her heart rate was 195 when we arrived at the ER. It was just black tea but it did have the caffeine. She is home with me. I was able to pick her up yesterday. I am so glad my baby is back home with me. She's acting more like herself today but still not 100%. Poor baby had a rough experience.

| How terrifying for you! Kudos on your quick-thinking and action in getting Lilly to Emergency. And thank you very much for sharing info about tea---geez, just when ya think you have a handle on dangerous-for-yorkie things, up pops something else. Thank you, again, and give your girl a little smooch from us. |

We grind our coffee beans at home and I've had to remind dad to be careful not to let any beans fall on the floor. I caught both Max and Teddy with one each when they were pups. Thankfully neither was interested in eating the bean. They guarded it like treasure in their beds. I have no idea if a single bean would have enough caffeine it it to cause a reaction. Teddy worried me terribly with the rapid breathing and heart rate when he used to react to thunderstorms, so I can imagine that Lily's reaction to the caffeine was terrifying x10. Tell your girls to be good and not scare you anymore. Sending more hugs to little Lily.

| Not only is the tea, the tea bag material an issue....you also have the staple in the string holding the little "tag" on the bag, along with the string itself. This babies will kill you, watching and checking and double, triple checking behind every thing they do, every place they go, every place they have access to.....I am glad it worked out well for you and your baby girl! Maybe try decaf tea...then you only have the bag, the string, and the staple to worry about! |
