| gay dog? My mom's dog (pappilon) apparently loves humping my yorkie puppy they are both males, the dog also does it with my j/r which is also a male. The pappilon is neutered(not sure what u call it but he can't have puppies) Is it normal? I find it super gross and i try to stop it but how? And should i? |

| It's all about dominance he's just showing who's boss! My boy gets in trouble for humping the cat who's gender is undetermined (it's an outside) I just scold him and he'll get off but sometimes you'll have to physically separate them!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Humping is due to a very normal instinct that all animals will have at some point, it's merely natural. Two of my male dogs (neutered) hump their stuffed "lover" dog, and that's fine with me...they've never tried to hump each other or humans, so it's fine. My female humps her donut bed . I would just redirect him gently to doing something else and/or toward a designated stuffed "lover" dog like we have.

YT 1000 Club Member | We tease my older (neutered male) Yorkie about being gay because he likes to hump both puppies (a male and a female). He will also "clean" my male puppies parts (both puppies are now fixed). It is about who is in charge and also playing to some extent. I would not be concerned about the behavior. The best thing you can do is distract. Offer a toy and try to get them to play instead of humping. My older male just gets so excited when they are playing that he starts humping the puppies. The female puppy is in charge so she doesn't let the older dog do this any more. However the two males are pretty equal and so my puppy does not really care if the older dog humps him. It is normal behavior. No harm is being done, although I understand where you are coming from about it being gross. I just grab a toy and offer to play with my older male dog as he loves to play with toys. My older dog had not had puppies for the first several months I had him and he never humped anything. The puppies came along and after he was afraid of them for the first couple weeks he started humping them. Girl puppy got tired of it quickly and let him know that she was not going to tolerate it, but the male puppy just ignores the behavior.

| Teddy occasionally humps Max when he is excited, especially in the car. In his case, it is part excitement and part dominance. We tease Teddy and tell him to stop nicely. Poor Max.

| When I first got Magnus, he did this to my friend's morkie. During one of Magnus's first vet visit, I explained what was going on and asked the vet tech: Is Magnus gay?... Cuz.. I don't care if he is but I'd like to know... My guess is this was the first time anyone ever asked that sort of question b/c she laughed so hard, she ended up sitting on the floor gasping for air. | Fallyn does it to Moxie. Fallyn is older and wants Moxie to understand that she is the boss!

| lol I remember a past situation quite a few years back, when I used to have a male yorkie and was still in high school. Well my close friend found a chocolate brown cocker-spaniel, male. So I picked him up and brought him home. We cleaned him and kept him on a leash for the first day inside. Well Mick, our male yorkie, was the most straight male dog we've ever known, never had such an interest in any males like that, to dominate or otherwise, lol (we had to get on to him when he kept trying to mount our female yorkie when she was still a pup at 3 months... she quickly then learned to bite him in the balls to get her point across that she doesn't want him to mess with her lol >_<). It's so funny watching him try to flirt with her by gently trying to kiss her and put his arms around her (he literally did this lol). She would always snap at him and he would back away but look amused :P The cocker-spaniel tried to mount him when Mick came closer to him out of curiosity, to just examine him, and he freaked out. His expression was priceless as he was shocked/surprised at the dog's behavior. We found a home for the cocker-spaniel within a couple of days. But it was so funny thinking about those days :P I don't know if that dog was trying to dominate Mick or maybe he thought he was female ^^;;;
