Default about food

Will try this again since I just had one up here and it wouldn't go in for me. time was up or something like that. I might have done one of this before about food. But I don't remember it right off hand either. So I thought I would ask again about since I see on this one list that it had things that they shouldn't eat like cherry. I heard from this trainer I saw last week or the week before on Home & Family that cherry was poison to them something like that I think. She did say what they can or can't eat. But I don't remember what it was all she said. So I thought I would see what you guys have to say since I can't keep up with what has change from one day to the next. Thanks for taking the time to read this and answer it.

Are you asking if dogs can have cherries? If so, from what I know - yes, they can have pitted cherries in small amounts. They cannot have grapes or raisins though.

I wanted to know what kind of food they can or can't eat. from what I read and seen on tv cherry wasn't good for them it was poison. but then again it could have been something else. I can never remember what all good for them or bad. and when I go look it up I get something different every time it seem like.

There are many types of cherries, all of which are pretty popular snack foods. It’s no wonder why – they’re delicious! While the pulp of the fruit is safe for dogs to eat, the plant and pit are moderately toxic to our dogs, and can result in respiratory failure and death. In fact, the plants and pits contain cyanide, so it’s no surprise that they are toxic. Be sure to keep your dog away from cherry plants, and feed only the pulp if you’re going to share with your pooch.
Read more at 10 Fruits & Vegetables That Are Toxic to Dogs stuff needs to be consumed in large amounts. If they get a pit now and then I wouldnt worry.

I really want to know what they can eat. so that we can get them in the house. I am not going to do the cherry's since she said it was poison to them. if it wasn't cherry's she had it sure did look like that. I don't know what other foods that look like cherry's. I just don't want to kill them by giving them something they shouldn't be having in the long run.

Seeds of almost any fruit, chocolate(NEVER dark, but I know ppl who have given milk or white with no issues), garlic(in certain quantities),raisins, avocados, grapes...the list goes on and on.

Your best bet if you plan on feeding them anything outside of their normal food is to look up something you'd think they'd be interested in and see if it's toxic to them first or contact your vet.

that's the thing it's different every time I see the list. some site say one thing is not good and other said something different so u never know anymore. like someone said bugers however it is spelled not good for them. we do know the pork is no good for them since the vet has told me that one. but they don't want me to give them people food. they want me to get the food that they sale there. we tried that one before and she don't like that one at all. even the wet one. she had to eat that one when she was sick.

Talking Yorkies & Human Food

I've only had huge dogs in past, but find myself in love with this little thing with a big personality!

*I'm really hoping to learn more about Yorkies and "human" food.

My baby (4 mos) got a tiny piece of my avocado I dropped and LOVED it! I gave her a tiny bit more & mixed it up in her food bowl...she cleaned it out, LoL!

This a.m. she got a segment of my mandarin orange (from can) and wanted more, but until I know more I won't let her.

So what else is beneficial to yorkies?

Thanks in advance!

You'll find that even though the information is different, there's a similar pattern. Some are safe within certain quantities, but I'd research those more thoroughly and if in doubt don't bother with them. Some species or type may react differently than others.
Some safe veggies/fruits are:
Cabbage, lettuce, carrots, green beans, sweet potato, edamame, cucumber, sweet peas, seaweed (unsalted/seasoned), apple, watermelon, cantaloupe, honey dew melon, pumpkin, squash, Kale, blueberries, strawberries, banana...
This site has lots of what you can/cannot give and explains why

You shouldn't be given her that. It's one of the goods she can't eat. There a list of what foods u can give her. I don't on the link to the site.

Avacado as well as mandarin orange slices are perfectly safe for your yorkie. Moderation, of course....dont feed pup a dozen mandarin oranges, or an entire avacado....but a couple of slices of the orange is perfectly fine, as is a couple teaspoonfuls of avacado...mine have eaten these two fruits for at least 15 years....my group even picks satsumas from my trees in the yard, and we divide the sections up and share it among everyone as well as myself! They adore figs, they love the kumquats, they will fight me for pears that have dropped....and dont get between them and plums from the tree! I had to stop planting raspberries and blackberries.....they would have eaten the bushes bare if I was not there to stop them....I had some bush beans that they would pick and bring into the house....and they would have sold their little souls to gypsies if I would have let them have my cucumbers and tomatoes!

No sweetie....how long have you been actively involved in this breed, every aspect of this breed?....I have been involved with Yorkies for at least 25 years, actively breeding them for over 16 years....I am very well versed in yorkies and in what these dogs can and can not eat. As a breeder, I stay up to the minute on health and care of these babies, so I can educate correctly and professionally, people that buy my puppies, as well as anyone else interested in accurate and reliable, documented information about everything that affects their yorkie. I have preferences, which I always indicate are my OWN preferences, and not necessarily information gleened from vet books and extensive educational classes/programs/continuing education classes. I have many people that are owners of my babies, and I stay in touch with these people the entire life of their babies, so I am not new or uneducated about this....you can feed your pup whatever you like, but dont give out incorrect information to people that depend on knowledgeable breeders/owners/show people, to provide them safe and reliable information on their pets. The seed of the avacado contains chemicals you dont want to give your pet, and you dont want to feed guacamole (sp!!) but, a couple small chunks of avacado will NOT hurt your pet. Individual pets may not tolerate avacado, just like I can not eat bologna anymore because it gives me indigestion, but MY intolerance to bologna does not make bologna poisonous to every body else and result in my call for a ban for everyone else not eat it!
Millions of people read this forum and use the information posted on here daily, in an effort to keep their pets safe and healthy. Preferences for one thing or another must be noted as such....avacado "meat" may not be something you want to give your pet, but it is not poisonous to dogs, just dont feed the seed!
“Despite the rumors, avocado is not poisonous to dogs, nor likely to cats,” says Dr. Justine Lee, a board-certified emergency critical care veterinary specialist and author of two popular books on pets. “Dogs and cats don't seem to be affected by persin,” explains Lee.

I am just giving people what I know and read and heard from pet trainers so u are saying they are wrong. Not everyone going to have it right. I could have find something that was old and when things was different then. So how do I know u have things right either. But I think someone on one of my other post about this said not to feed them that and give me the link. So don't go off on me. I am just telling her from what I was told a while back. Not everyone going to have it right

Do your OWN extensive research when it involves your baby....take what people tell you, research and VERIFY from reputable sources, and go from there.

I am not saying anyone is wrong....I am just giving you verified medical/vet research to support what they are saying....take it or leave it, your choice. I would much rather you believe something that is actually NOT dangerous, in YOUR mind is dangerous, than to disregard research that verifies something IS dangerous, and you erroneously think it is harmless.
