Panting I have a 1 year old and he has always done a fast hack noise ever since I got him. Vet said probably sensative trachea. My question is now that he is 1 he will sometimes pant and it is not even hot and pant for like 5 minutes and then make that fast hack and then the panting is done. Do you think it is his trachea collapsing and that is why he is panting and he hacks to open it back up. I don't know to much about collapse trachea. Thanks everyone

If you are really worried about it then you may want to just make an appointment and have him checked out specifically for possible illnesses signified by heavy panting. Heavy panty is a symptom of many diseases and disorders. Its also possible hat he may have a deformity in his respiratory system in the throat or nose. Does he have any other symptoms? If not ten it might just be the way he breaths. Dogs don't have to be "hot" or over exerted to pant. All my dogs pant periodically when they are just sitting around. They occasionally hack too, probably just hair, saliva, or dust irritating their throats though. The hacking could also be an allergy

Thanks for getting back to me. He will be getting his shots very soon and I am going to bring it up to the vet. He is fine in every other way. Just does the hack noise and sometimes will pant and then hack. He does have allergies. Watery eyes and itchy skin. Thanks again

Really...allergies in a 1 yr old? Are you sure? If so, that's *very* rare, but not impossible. Bummer to see them this young. If there are allergies, then the hacking could be from throat irritation. Is it seasonal or all year? For allergy info read here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html
