| Just some updates and questions, indoor potty training 10 yr old yorkie I don't post frequently, but certainly have appreciated all useful information I get from browsing around. My Tinky is doing pretty well. After a couple more visits to her vet we have tried her on Xanax for her anxiety times. Seems to be working pretty well. We weren't ready to start her on Prozac as it seemed a little extreme for now. Not saying I'm opposed to it if she needs in future. She has finally started sleeping in my bed again which makes me so happy. Now I have another question. Since she is 10 yrs. now she has shown some signs of aging a little. She occasionally goes to bathroom in house. She NEVER did this before. This will happen at night when she wanders around on occasion. Not every night. So my question, how do you train an older dog, such as herself, to go potty on a pee pad when she has only known going potty outdoors? Can this even be done? There are reasons I'd like to try and train her this way. I just don't have a clue where to start??? Any help would be appreciated! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is some of anxiety related to a bit of age-related dementia / confusion setting in for her already? If so, I can then see why/how she may be going potty suddenly in this new habit. For pads, you could try getting some of her urine on the actual pad so that she can smell it and perhaps start associating that smell w/ where to go.

| Thanks to those who replied to my potty training question. Yes I do believe her potty issues are age related as I've noticed other areas she is definitely showing signs of aging. I'm trying the suggestions, but with no luck yet. I realize it could take a long time if it ever even happens. If she acts stressed at all from this I will probably stop. She already has enough anxiety, which is also age related as she had never acted anxious before when she was younger. Ten years old she doesn't seem old most of the time but then there are those times. Very sad. I'm hoping and praying for many, many wonderful years with her. Can't bear the thought of a life without her in it. |
